TRBBQ -=V=- Official Thread

Postposted on Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:32 am

Rumblings in the forums have decided that it's time for this thread to get started, w00t! 8)

For the uninitiated please check out last year's thread. In short this is the official thread for the unofficial annual TRBBQ. Like last year it will take place in Holland, MI, right on the big lake at my family's cottage.

I'm glad to start this thread earlier than normal, hopefully the extra notice will allow more people to attend. How many did we have last year anyway? 20ish? We can do better...

Also, by reading these words you are obligated to pester TR Staffers until they agree to show at this one, afterall, it's a half decade old tradition! ;)

That's good enough for now, this post will be updated over the course of the year with everything you need to know.

Update #1: The BBQ will happen on August 2nd!!! - at 12:00 EST

Update #2: You can check the progress of the BBQ here where I will try to upload semi-live pictures as the day unfolds. - err, nevermind, I get also no coverage with my new phone out there. However I'll put pics up there as fast as I can after the thing is over.

My first TR BBQ was last year and it was a great time. It's awesome to put faces (and real names) with forum handles, plus everyone was really cool. (Especially Leor... that cat is 10 pounds of cool in a 5 pound bag).

I definitely encourage anyone who is able to attend. There's a party at Dr. Fish's and a good time shall be had by all.

Gotta link to this.

I'll meet you there at 5AM again. ;)

Seriously, whatever you need, I've got it covered. Shall we plan on the pig roaster again? Leor may have the cool award, but you'll always be the MVP of the BBQ. :)

I'm in this year, barring really bad scheduling problems. I hated missing last year's.

lol, I was actually thinking of a later start since people had some trouble with 1pm. Epecially the Michiganders that had less then a 2 hour drive.

YOU know WHO you are! :D

Gah, a reply during my edit...

Anyway, I would be inclined to agree, too many people showed up too late. Punctuality people, plan for traffic problems, don't oversleep, pack the night before, etc... ;) You can't get there too early, no worries. :)

Lol, the pig roster worked out great. I might even bring...wait for it...MORE ribs. Though that will be a challenge.

Seriously though it is not like we do this thing last minute. And even though some people will use kids as an excuse. Try providing food for everyone. If I didn't preplan it and prep ahead of time, I would never be able to pull it off.

I can't wait to see Amber running around like a banshee, giving hugs ("gugs") to everyone. She loves wide open spaces. Maybe she won't be as scared of the lake this year as she was last year.

btw - I will note that right now, my summer is freed up except for possible vacation. But I have no weddings or graduations on the horizon this year.

I actually have a reliable car this time around, so I'm going to try again at this. ;)

As long as it doesn't interfere with KansasFest 2008. Yes, I'm a nerd. :P
QOTD: The first step in using the SUN processor is making sure it is turned on. There is probably a switch labeled "ON" and "OFF". It will work better if the power switch is in the "ON" position.

A list of what everyone should/is to bring when we get closer should solve that problem.

Actually my point was that I had an huge about of food, food preperation, and associated supplies. Several nights I was up very late and yet I was still there at 5am to start cooking.

Making a 2 hour drive on a Saturday morning shouldn't be that hard with a little preplanning.

I should be in as well. I should be able to get leave approved for it. And then we will settle all this basketball talk. And I'll try my hand at this beanbag game.

hehe, only 2,875KM!
I may make better time if I take the TransCanada to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay. Maybe they have a ferry I can take to shave off some driving time from there.
On the bright side, the directions take me through Fargo.

You planning on coming again, Xylker?

To everyone - if he can make it from TX (with two months less notice last year) then no one has any excuses not to find a way here...

only 557 miles for me, and thank god I start after fargo.

I will probably not make it. I think we need a Minneapolis get together, I could probably name 10 people from this forum who live in the area.
