It's batch injection stock, so cylinders 1,2 and 3,4 share injection cycles.

Ah, so only half the penalty of CIS. I can only think of the MPG my college '84 Rabbit GTi might have made with sequential injection. I've rued trading her in (in 1988) many a time.

Well I get great MPG now...with the new sequential fuel map I expect it to be even better. 40 MPG? Maybe! I have it very lean in cruise (15.5:1 or so) which made a HUGE difference in MPG.

Feats impossible for early-'80s Bosch K-Jetronic systems. About all we had back then was bigger throttle bodies and a cam pulley that had a centrifugal clutch/slider in it that would change the timing over X RPM for a poor-man's VW VTEC. Easy to do on an old VW/Audi 1.8 with no interference. The ultimate was a supercharger that replaced the intake manifold and was driven from the crank pulley. Saw a few in catalogs but never saw one on the street. That old VW block & head could surely have taken the boost, though. The 8V 1.8s were absolutely indestructible.

I wish they'd go back to making one that isn't a bloated pig. The new Miatas might have more power and torque but they just aren't the same in the twisties...

I currently drive a rustbucket 2000 Nissan Altima with over 170K miles on it. Now that the last kid is (nearly) out of college, maybe soon I will be able to afford to drive a car manufactured in the current millennium!

I wish I could make cars last that long. The '10 Subie LGT (purchased October '09) is pushing 95K miles and a certain mid-August jaunt is about to add another 1900 miles to that total. Still on original suspension and brakes, though I've got replacements for both in garage boxen. Just need to find the time.

I'm hoping to be buying my dad's car in the next month or so...he's finally willing to part with it! '99 C5, ~450 HP. I've wanted it since he bought it back in 2000.

The 5-speed automatic will probably need work if I keep the car more than another year. I had the same model transmission rebuilt in my '98 Accord V6 at 175,000 miles for $1500 at a local shop.

Waco C5/6 are fun cars and a great platforms to work with, they are reliable and get good mileage (my z06 gets better mileage than my G35 coupe did), I used to be into F-bodys when I was a poor college student ~10yrs back, I now daily drive a 2002 Corvette Z06 w/motor work (500+hp), plus a few other toys, my favorite being my 2003 Honda RC51 RVT1000R. My dad had a C5-Z06, when I had my z28, but this was 10 years back, would of loved to got that car when he passed, and is a big reason I have one now.

Edit: Here is what I was working on last weekend, pulling the N2O (not needed for my daily driver), in the process of adding a JL10W3 and a nice head unit, and matting the entire interior. I bought the car late last year with 10k miles, so I plan on putting a whole lot of miles on this one.

Yes, these "old men's cars" are surprisingly fun to drive... Too bad they have such a "cheap", aesthetically unpleasant interiors but such are ALL of American "sporty" cars. Partially explains their relatively inexpensive prices.

I really only see old men driving a base or vert. The majority of the z06 and zr1 owners I know are under 40, but then again we are talking about people with wana-be supercar aspirations vs some retiree's weekend ride. On the other side, I also met up with the corvette association for a local get together years back, and oh god, piles and piles of stock base models, with tacky chrome add-ons, who scoff at the guy who added a CAI, and shun motorwork like a sin, so I see where that stereotype comes from. I love the looks, the c5's do have that late 90s-early 00s look to them, but hey, that's when they came out, but to each his own, c6 look great, c7, I have yet to see one in person... again, my own opinion. My goal is a Ford GT in the next few years, but for now, I love having a daily driver that can pull >1g in a turn, >500hp, >20mpg. The interior (you can see the imgur album linked above) is getting a full makeover, insulation matting, new Kenwood 6990, new seats... You figure a car that can brake, accelerate, and turn better than all but a handful of cars, would have a seat that would keep you in place (added later as an option), my z-28, g35, even my accord, had more lateral support. For a daily driver, maintenance and parts are cheap and readily available, it has an LSx motor lol, I got exactly what I wanted, and won't feel bad putting lots-o-miles on it, unlike other cars.

Nice!

Yeah I think I've put more wrench time into the car than he has since he got it...and we averaged 33-34 MPG on the highway cruising and not driving crazy.

I just have to figure out a way to pay him for it...

With my car having the instantaneous fuel economy on the dash spurs me on to see how bad I can get it. It goes up to a worst of 99.9 L/100km, so my goal is to see how long I can peg it there for :) Got it for about 5 seconds now.

As for what I'm driving now. Changed the ute for a FPV GS sedan last year. Just had it for over 12 months and have nearly put 50,000 km on it already. Lots of fun to drive. The 5.0L supercharged V8 is a brilliant motor and its sounds absolutely great when you keep it in second and hold the revs between 4-6 thousand.

I also put a twin 3" cat back exhaust on and it has a 4" pipe over the diff as its really tight there. Here's a photo of the pipe next to my iPad. It's rather large.

I've been driving a new Honda for almost a month. It has a 1.735 liter 3-cylinder engine that delivers 34 to 35 mpg at 70 mph on the highway when I drive like Bruce Banner.
When Hulk mashes down on the right pedal, the other half of the engine turns on and delivers a smile-inducing 278 hp that propels it from 0 to 60 mph in 5½ seconds (if I don't mash it hard enough to break traction). :D
I've averaged just over 33 mpg for the first 2500 miles. (That's 7.1 L/100km for clone.)

Ah, forgot about this thread.

The new "nice" ride is the '99 C5 I mentioned earlier in the thread:

It has a bit less pep up at 7500 feet but it's still ungodly fast with it's current mods. :)

Ah, Subarus and forced induction. The wastegate don't care about ambient pressure, just absolute pressure. At 7500', I'll give you a dice. 8)

Had her since sophomore in HS (Sr College now) so she is getting old but always starts. After I graduate she will become a project car/track car. For now keeping it stock, except it has Supersprint catback exhaust.

It's all too tempting to do a procharger setup...

Snow. Put the Linclon Mark VIII away in it's shelter and now my Suzuki Swift will haul my ass about the winter wonderland. An amazing little bear in the snow, I have passed 4x4s stuck on hills with this little jewel.

2012 Challenger R/T Plus, 6spd, Sunroof, and Blue Streak Pearl paint

Its my daily driver because... 6spd Hemi! Wisconsin winters are probably not the best for it but my 2005 Magnum did great for 7yrs before it got traded in.

ludi, hasn't been too much of a money pit. Only thing expensive than say same year Honda or Toyota is parts. I can do most of the labor myself or with a friend. Basic maintenance hasn't been too bad but if I decide to track car, then oh ya it'll be a huge money pit. Thought about just buying an already done track car, but then there isn't the fun times of doing it myself.

PICS!!! I rarely want an American car, but an SRT Challenger is on my list. Nice choice on the 6sp. As for the winters, I have a set of OEM wheels and Bridgstone Blizzaks that do wonders for the car. Gone through/plowed 6+ inches of snow with ice underneath with ease. Also have to know throttle control as the traction control is rudimentary. What winters you got on? Also any mods or plans for it?

No mods right now, maybe someday when it transitions to 3rd car status.

It does surprisingly well in the winter, 4000lbs can be a plus sometimes. I need to get a set of winter tires for sure but right now still on the stock Firehawk all-seasons.
