birthday gift for brother

Sat May 31, 2003 4:50 pm

hmmm kay. he's got an A7N8X DLX and two 256mb pc 2700 from crucial.

I've got him on the dual channel now, would it work to give him a stick of PC 3200 512mb on one channel, and his other ram on the other channel? I know the 3200 would not go it's rated speed, only of that the 2700 can, but would that be compatable? he runs apps which take more than 512 ram, so it would give him the performance boost he needs.

that or I might get him a(n other) 200 gig hdd for more storage :)
or a monitor, his kinda sucks.... or a new dvd drive, his sucks, maybe a combo dvd/cd-r.... his birthday is tomorrow (june 1), so think quick

Get him a monitor. The upgrade will be more apparent.

he's got an old 17" sony trintron. it's not TERRIBLE but he'll see more benifits from more RAM, that's why I was asking. if that won't work I'll get him a monitor, or another 200 gig hdd

I would have to agree. A monitor would be the most visible and enjoyable gift. Going to a better display is always a refreshing experience.

hmmmm..... might have to hold back a bit on the cash, because we're also getting some other stuff for him, I don't have enough for a decent monitor. :( prolly just give him RAM or something.

The RAM should be fine, as the fast stuff will just clock down to run at the same speed as the slower stick. That should help him out with his appz.

You can never have too much RAM for EQ, that game eats up memory quicker than any program I have ever seen. Oh, and happy Bday to your bro from me.

Be sure it's cool looking or name brand RAM at least. Geil had some really nice looking chromed sticks the might stick if he has a case window.
