The Two Towers- Gandalf vs. Balrog

Ninja Scroll - Jubei vs. Tessai (must be played in slow motion to appreciate its awesomeness)

For me it's a tie between those two.
A most unfortunate, Freudian, double entendre is that hotel named "Budget Inn."

Most memorable 1st thing that comes into my head......Madness......THIS IS SPARTA!!!!

Amazing scene...humm,As for beautiful i would have to say a couple of Avatars Bio luminous night Landscape scenes.2d but better in 3d :o

Action scene 1st thing i can think of is the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan,Mostly because of how realistic it seemed and i saw it on a saturday matinee in a almost Empty theater.Well i never took my eyes off that scene but when i did i noticed a much older couple sitting in the last row on the far right. The woman was comforting the man who was clearly crying. That really struck a cord,he must have been a ww2 vet.Not being the type of person who stares at people in distress, idiots yes:) ..so i continued to watch the movie giving a glance over every once in a while. It was clear as day that he was being reminded of something bad.About a hour in I noticed the OLD man and probably wife had left and never returned....Ill never forget his face,or get the chance to thank him.

I like so many movies so it is hard to pic...i think of one thing then remember another,I give up.

I've always enjoyed the scene towards the end of Scent of a Woman where Al Pacino defends young 'Charlie' before the school's disciplinary board.

The entire parade scene from the end of "Animal House".

The last scene from Unforgiven, where Munny goes into town to avenge Ned's death.

"That's right... I've killed women and children. I've killed everything that walked or crawled at one point or another... And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned."

There's too many to list, but there are two right off the top of my head, the end of The Usual Suspects and the bank heist from Heat.

That's a really good one. I also like several scenes in Serenity such as River fighting the Reavers and the giant space battle.

Gandalf fighting the Balrog is awesome as well as the opening 2nd Age battle between Sauron and the armies of the West.

"I am your father" In Empire Strikes Back as well as the asteroid chase scene.

It may be campy but I love Anthony Hopkins blowing away those guys at the end of Legends of the Fall

I definitely second LOTR, Star Wars, Gladiator, Heat, and 300 scenes. I'll throw in:

Braveheart - "Freedom"
Downfall - Hitler's speech
Snatch - The ending
There Will Be Blood - The ending
The Great Escape - The motorcycle scene with McQueen
Scarface - "Say Hello..."
This Is England - Milky beaten by Combo
Saving Private Ryan - The beach
Gone With The Wind - "Frankly my dear..."
Harry Potter - The death of Dumbledore
The Departed - The ending with all the killing (probably more than 1 scene I guess)

I'm sure I'm leaving tons out b/c I've only thought on this for a couple minutes.. But those are a few IMHO.

Not even one vote for an HK martial arts flick yet?

I nominate the final fight scene of Jackie Chan's "Legend of Drunken Master" (a.k.a. DMII, not the original '78 flick). Everything in that scene, from the moment he re-enters the steel mill, comes together perfectly...and then continues about three times longer than you ever expected, escalating at just the right rate.

Saving Private Ryan : The beach ( Seems others enjoy it too )

Schindler's List: Oscar Schindler's tearful escape

Shawshank Redemption: The escape

Dr. Strangelove : Riding the bomb

Raiders of the Lost Ark: The whole damned opening

Saving Private Ryan - beach scene. I dunno that I'd call it 'amazing' so much as 'suicidal'. 23+ minutes of no dialogue whatsoever, just a horrific scene that shows you the brutality, finality and full affect of war. What our men did on that day is something that I hope we will not have to repeat ever again. 'Greatest generation' indeed.

*Salute to our many veterans*

Loved the LoTR Gandolf-Balrog suggestion as well. My 5 year old watched it with me, and I yelled 'CAVE TROLL' when they were in the tombs.

I like lots of scenes from different movies - LOTR/Gladiator/Saving Private Ryan/300, etc. I have good 3D TV at home AND I have a nice 5.1 speaker system (with an awesome Velodyne sub) in my tiny "movie" room, so anything with exceptional visual effects (like "Avatar", when using active 3D glasses in completely dark room) or even some simplistic movies with a GOOD "audio/sound" scenes in them (for example, the first "Transformers" movie with the "Arrival To Earth" scene or "Tron: Legacy" movie with scenes where Sam gets dressed or gets onto Lightcycle for the first time, or "The Fifth Element" where Diva starts to sing) can be considered "amazing" by me

The scene in 1962's Manchurian Candidate where they investigate the soldiers and it keeps switching between a women's gardening meeting and high party officials in Communist China.

Unbelievably amazing scene.

Other top ones:
The Shower scene in Psycho was awesome. - Tons more from Hitchcock - Rear Window's opening, NxNW plane chase, The Man who Knew Too Much - the telephone call.
Singing in the Rain - Gene Kelly dancing away to the title song.
Goodfellas - walking into the nightclub.
The Usual Suspects - Kevin Spacey's transformational walk at the end with the cut scenes back to the office.
The fight at the end of Star Wars - without CGI it was unbelievably well done.
Stagecoach - John Wayne flipping his Winchester (to load another shell) when he cries out "Hold it"
All of Citizen Kane - the techniques in that film with distortion and shadowing - fricking brilliant
The Godfather - Where Michael accepts fealty while Kay looks on, knowing she was lied to, and that she is shut out.

the bank heist from Heat.

'Twas my first thought. Second thought was the final showdown at the end of Leon (or The Professional, apparently, depending on which version yer watchin').

Third thought was the Scared Mule conversation from the beginning of A Fistful of Dollars. "I don't think that's very nice, you laughin'."

Curious about this one. Bollywood is it?

Other epic scenes that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet:

The Mist : ending

Another Earth : ending

Endhiran : battle scene (this is Indian/Tollywood)

I think numero uno for me has to be the destruction of the Death Star in the original Star Wars movie - when it was on the big screen. I was a kid, and I remember the audience getting to their feet and cheering.

In second place is the scene in Gettysburg where Lee is cheered by his troops just before Pickett's Charge. It sums up in a moment why the Army of Northern Virginia was so difficult to defeat, despite substantial disadvantages.
