Ownta.com

Hey gerbils, I just ran across this strange e-store selling stuff like Tigerdirect or Newegg does, only I'm shocked and in disbelief to see so many items being sold for such high prices! Take this FX-6100 for example, which is selling for $352 (as of this post). I think it's just something like $130 at Tiger.

Are these guys for real? I don't think their prices include S&H or taxes, so I was really wondering what free gold nugget they include with every purchase. Or are these guys ripping people off?

There's a reason you should always shop around before buying anything.

The FX-6100 is only $120 at Microcenter:

... and $135 at Tiger:

Newegg is selling it for $140, which is still peanuts compared to those guys!

I swear, these guys are trying to rob somebody. Needless to say, they gotta align their prices to everybody else's, or at least try to stay near the MSRPs if they don't want people getting shocked at their ridiculous prices!

You do realize these guys are based in Hong Kong?

They probably don't do much small-parts business internationally. The website is probably cataloging the original MSRP and hasn't been updated.

PC parts in Hong Kong don't stray far from U.S. prices. They're usually at par or even cheaper. How do I know? I go there. And the FX-6100 never sold for $352 even on introduction. Whatever the reason may be for their insane prices, they gotta fix it.

Well... now that CompUSA is part of TigerDirect, someone needs to fill the market niche formerly occupied by CompUSA!

Years ago (when they were still separate business entities), I remember looking at DIMMs at the CompUSA, then going down the street (they were literally within walking distance of each other) and getting them for 1/3 the price at the TigerDirect outlet store.

There's lots of ridiculous prices on that site... I dunno wtf is their deal, but just ignore it and buy from a well-known reputable store.

Maybe it is a link in some sort of money laundering operation?

JohnC: You bet there is! I found the site because I Googled some DDR3-1866 modules. I think they were selling 12GB of DDR3-1600 (or was it 1866) for something like $307.

Funny thing is, I went back to their site, and from the upper (dark gray) tab selected Computers > Components > CPU/Processors, and the page couldn't be found. Maybe they're just having some problems with their site though.

In S Fl , CompUSA has quite a few B&M stores in the area, I end up buying most of my parts from them. Their prices are inline with most e-tailers.The only issue is they aren't always up to date with the latest hardware at the store closest to my house so I have to go farther to get what I would normally get online. Paying the taxes is usually better than paying the egg's "updated" shipping charges.

CompUSA is not the same company today that they were up until a few years ago. They essentially went out of business, and TigerDirect acquired the rights to the name, logo, and web site. They are now TigerDirect's B&M storefront.

All of the former TigerDirect stores in the Chicago area are CompUSAs now, and the prices are (usually) the same as the prices on TigerDirect's web site.
