Don't worry about it. Also, probably best just not to start a discussion about it.

Don't let them bother you. I can understand why they'd start getting pissed off right about know. If they aren't interested in voting, then constant reminders can definitely annoy.

Voted, and looks like I can still vote one more time before the polls close

Well, Gentlemen.

It seems it's finally over. it was a long haul, and thank you guys for everything you did. I know you guys voted, advocated, shared, prayed, and plugged, and i want to tell you guys just how much it meant to me. You guys really went above and beyond, and I was so touched I've literally been moved to tears. whether we win or not, we really raised a lot of support and raised awareness of these kinds of issues. I know a lot of people know Africa has issues, but not a lot of people think of their actions as being able to have an impact, and we gave people that knowledge. The world is a small place, and these people are within our realm of influence, should we try. It really is incredible.

Rogers just relayed to me that it will be a few weeks before they make any comments on the contest. I know as much as you, possibly less, since the page shut down for me at 12:00 Atlantic time. I anticipate us in second though, as that's how it was when I last saw it.

I want to again, reiterate my appreciation for all of your patience with me, and for all the support you gave. I would also like to thank TR for allowing us the freedom to post this as much as we did. It really was very kind.

As soon as I hear the final results, I'll be sure to let you guys know. If there is any interest in doing anything further, please let me know. I'm not sure what options we could pursue, but if you guys have any interest/ideas, please, there is still lots of good we could do!

With much sincere love for you all,
Josh Pozzolo
SSK

I guess the challenge is to be able to target your specific village. I sent a note to cleanwaterformalawi.org in the hope of obtaining some guidance.

I gotta say, I'm kind of curious. How much would it actually cost to get a clean, sustainable well in this village? Has anybody done the legwork yet?

I know that this sort of thing can be rife with extra "costs", such as paying off local officials to some degree or another. Would this be a factor here? What sort of bottom line would it require?

it's between 6-8k for a decent drilled well. I've spoken to a number of well drilling charities in the region, and that's what they tell me they'll need. I wouldn't expect to pay any extra costs. I lived there for years and did tons of stuff and never paid a cent.

idk, i was thinking the same thing. I'll check into it. we might be able to test the waters, anyway. we've been doing fundraising for a few years, locally, but really only raised about 300$ (besides immediate family contributions) and for the MANY MANY man hours, its a tricky task.

well my small church, during december, redirects all of its tithes (unless otherwise specified) to drilling wells in africa. i can talk to my pastor to see where the most recent ones were and see if we can't make your daughters village the goal for next year. last year we raised $33,000 this year i think it was $32,000. anyways, if you're interested then I can talk to my pastor about that. i dunno if they have a program already and if they can make an exception or not, but my pastor is pretty open to suggestions.

Edit: fixed numbers and added link so you can check it out

But what would SSK do for stretch goals?

Personalized ALL CAPS message? Upvotes for life? Trolling the TR user of your choice?

I don't think this would be able to run on Kickstarter since that is more for products of some sort.. but I think Kiva or some other micro-finance/donation site may work.

Indiegogo accepts charitable kickstarter-like projects. You may want to check there.

This was an awesome project SSK, rarely does one get an opportunity to make a difference whilst perusing the net'. Thank you for the chance.

And hey, if you're ever up to the city, PM me, I'd love to take you for an ale!

Gentlemen, we fought hard, but in the end, we didn't quite get the votes we needed. I just received an email from rogers saying we didn't get first place. Somebody will follow up with me in the next month in regards to other details. I'll keep you guys posted, and thank you all again for everything you guys did. You've really been amazing.

Josh
