So, Skyfall

I enjoyed the heck out of it. It was a shame that Dench's M won't be back

It was good. I like the new Q, M, and MP. A bit too long of a first act for my tastes, but good. I wish they could have gotten Sean Connery to do the groundskeeper role, though. That would have been fun.

I loved it... Not quite as good as Casino Royale, but leaps and bounds better than QoS.

Javier Bardem can be a great villain. This performance was on par with his portrayal of Anton Chigurh.

The one thing that I was disappointed about was that it was more like an action film and less like a James Bond film. I thought that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were more faithful to the character and style of bond movies than this one was. Then again, I guess they rebooted the series for a reason.

Having read the original Ian Flemming novels years ago, I am pleased with all the Daniel Craig Bonds so far - Connery was the best Bond, but Craig is truest to Ian Flemming's novels.

Whilst Casino Royale is a great standalone film, it is complimented well by QoS. Unfortunately QoS isn't as great as a standalone product.
I am pleased to say that Skyfall worked very well as a Bond movie and it nicely brings the whole franchise full-circle for a reboot of sorts.

I liked Skyfall and how they brought everything full circle and answered the age old question, WHY James Bond never slept with MoneyPenny.

Overall, I thought it was an excellent movie, although I have to wonder why in all of the land of England/Scotland, James Bond didn't have a weapons cache. I mean, if he's got a spot for a car like that, how hard would it have been to have a few automatic rifles kicking around?

My favorite Bond though is still GoldenEye. I really liked Pierce Brosnan, but after Goldeneye they just kept giving him terrible stories with TERRIBLE bad guys.

I agree; I think Brosnan had massive potential but got truly awful movies (though I liked Goldeneye I can't call it a great Bond film).

I actually don't like Connery that much but that might be a generational thing.

Brosnan was good, but he was a bit too much of a pretty boy for the role IMO. I thought Timothy Dalton was very underrated as James Bond. I would have liked to have seen more films with him.

I list my Bonds, from best to worst, as follows:

Connery
Craig
Dalton
Lazenby (nearly tied with Dalton)
Brosnan
Moore

In fact, the only Bond I really don't like is Roger Moore's characterization.

#2 Has to be Pussy Galore from goldenfinger just on name alone. Played by Honor Blackman was 36 years old when filming and not bad looking for being born in 1927 and a movie from 1964. But i have to say the name alone gives her second place

#3 Would have to be The original Bond girl Honey Ryder was the leading Bond girl in Dr. No. Played by Ursula Andress that came out in 1962 and she was 20 years old when the movie was filmed.

I can agree with that. I usually don't rank Lazenby since I have a hard time figuring out how I feel about him from just one movie. I liked both Dalton and Craig for the same reason--they played a harder Bond, one that I could actually picture killing someone.

As an aside; Dench was the best M the series has ever had. I want to see how the new one stacks up--I think the introduction was handled well and I'm hoping he keeps the vibe of a stronger, more believable M. The other ones from the older films never struck me as the sort of person who'd order someone's death.

Skyfall was great, worth the price of seeing it at the cinema (I usually don't go). Overall, I like Daniel Craig as Bond, and right now he's the second best Bond ever for me, mostly because... we see him put through a lot more dire situations and how his character deals with them.

But I hope the producers know where to draw the line. Knowing too much about Bond can never be a good idea - once you put it out, you can't take it back. The next movie had better not reveal anything more about Bond.

I look at that as a departure from the old bond movies, making them less about cutting the moon in half with lasers and more about how much ass bond can kick. IMO, for what its worth anyways, as far as action movie standards go, this is still an exceptional film. I really like that bond is being portrayed as a government employed assassin, that gets his hands dirty, instead of a suave gentleman that also happens to be the best spy in the world.

Funny, I find the second characterization more interesting - a steel hand wrapped in velvet, so to say. Why do you like the first one? You could just watch a Bourne movie for that...

I think that summarizes my complaint about Skyfall. It felt more like a Bourne film than a bond film.

I got bored. I almost fell asleep in the first hour.. I don't normally fall asleep in the middle of a movie unless I'm lying down, or unless the movie is called Stray Dog
