The people local to the area are sometimes willing to pick folks up from the airport.

The drive is easy, though, so if you're up to it I'd say just go for it.

final note in this conversation: midway is more convenient than o'hare.

Yeah, I know I suck. But I can't afford grad school this semester AND a flight there and back. Alas.

You do realize that rings hollow, with myself and Cap'n Ned attending, right? I'm making it a five day weekend to allow myself enough drive time, and I have no idea how Ned is going to drive that. :)

A midpoint stop in Erie, PA both ways. Makes for a 4-night trip.

Any local spots good to stay at for the night, or whatever goes? :)

Hotels in the Holland area tend to get pricey quickly during the summer season. I booked at the Fairfield Inn on the north side of town back in March for $169/night.

Best place in town is easily City Flats on 17th St. It's actually just about the closest hotel to the beach as well, not that it matters a lot. All the other options are pretty much average hotel chain deals, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, etc...

Alright, here are my front runners for the neck medal engraving:

Gold:
TR BBQ ~X~
Creamy Smoothness

Silver:
TR BBQ ~X~
dont ya mean cornhole

Bronze:
TR BBQ ~X~
Krogoth is not impressed.

Alternatively we could do the Krogoth one for gold and bump the other two down a notch... ;) I liked the idea of TR specific memes too much to go with anything else but if you've got others let me know! Also, I figured I'd let the color of medal and the image on the front speak for themselves and leave the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and "Cornhole Tournament" verbage off the engraving since the medal is only 2" in diameter.

It makes sense for KINI to be on the gold. He'd be holding out for a platinum medal at half the cost anyways.

I'll take Gleek's "better then the green towel!" for bronze. That is about as TR BBQ Specific as it gets, and its from BBQ 1 or 2 i memory serves. :)

Also, except for the one year I missed, I think I still have all the photos & videos from the other 8 years......trying to figure out a way to display them at BBQ X.

Yeah, but the true name of the story is the Green Washcloth.

Does anyone remember the name of the guy who used to post stuff and then delete it?

3rd place could just be his name w/ "Edited" next to it.

Alright, how's this?

Gold:
TR BBQ ~X~
Krogoth is not impressed.

Silver:
TR BBQ ~X~
Creamy Smoothness

Bronze:
TR BBQ ~X~
dont ya mean cornhole

TR BBQ Achievements (in random order):
Oldest daily operational PC
Longest drive to attend
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the tourney
Longest time spent traveling to attend
Most forum posts
Highest number of hours playing in single Steam game
Number of BBQs attended
Earliest forum join date
Highest Ghz overclock
First person to sink 4 bean bags in a row (or failing that, 3 or 2)
Largest number of games in Steam library
Furthest distance traveled to attend
Highest number of total hours playing Steam games (I like the idea of rewarding this person for actually bothering to attend ;))

We're going to have to remember some of these other memes for next year... ...or we could get one more for 4th, I mean we always know who places 4th anyway... Hmm... What would a 4th place award look like??? ;)

Edit:
4th Place?
The Golden Cupcake:*
TR BBQ ~X~
Better than The Green Washcloth.

* - can only be awarded to participants 18 years of age and older

True, but then figure that the cost of the flight is about 100 bucks more to get to GRR, plus you could usually drive to GR from o'hare in the the extra time spent laying over at o'hare, detroit, or minneapolis.

I'd suggest driving up the morning of though, weekday traffic can be fairly severe between O'hare and Gary. Off peak times I can usually make O'hare in about 2 hours from Holland, week days, it's usually closer to 3.5 hours.

I do too, though for different reasons...usually you can priceline a 4 star hotel next to the airport for 50-75 bucks a night and parking is free. Versus staying in the tourist areas where overnight parking is 50 bucks, then if you're lucky you might be able to snag a deal on a hotel for 125/night. So, if I'm in Chicago you can just about guarantee I'm staying at O'hare.

I am happy with any of them....just figured the wash towel, like the burning T-shirt, are good "BBQ" related stories that should live on forever......kinda like someone hitting someone else's car during one of the original BBQs. lol

Also, a note for those of you attending, first timers or long timers:

If you play Fantasy Football, we try to make a BBQ league every year, aside from the other TR leagues, so let us know so we can put you in a league with people you drank and broke bread with

Trust me, the trash talk is better when u have met people face to face. :)

I should be able to confirm as definite attendee later today. Also having my troublesome molar out, so I should have enough time to heal!

Any idea what sort of stuff is in highest demand at these swap meets? I've got a fairly roomy car.

Cash! Lol, seriously, I have no need for new hardware and tons of stuff I could sell but I don't really bring anything that I'm not willing to part with for dimes or nickels on the dollar. If you DO want hardware though and can fully embrace the "swap" nature of the event then anything decently modern will likely catch someone's eye.
