Go out on top?

Postposted on Wed Jul 10, 2013 10:41 pm

It has been an interesting year, and due to making the final round of some interviews, it might be my last year as a teacher.

In February I received a grant from NASA and the Office of Naval Research to build 10 underwater ROV's with students. They did the work before and after school with minimal guidance from me (winning!). They soldered circuit boards for controllers, wired motors, and built the battery powered devices from basic components.

And to top that off, back in April a group of my students were among five teams from across the country who won a Kleenex advertisement campaign. The videos went public today and our school was awarded $5,000.

Just sharing. Being a teacher is awesome. Being allowed to participate in events like these has been an incredible experience.

Dad got out of teaching many years ago and never looked back. Never heard of anyone regretting changing jobs, I am sure some people have, but I have never heard of them.

Shame you're leaving the profession, from the sound of it we need more teachers like you.

What will you be doing next?

That is the problem with underpaying and under appreciating Teachers, Nurse, First Responders, Social Workers, etc...the good ones get sick of being treated that way after a while, and go on to make more money elsewhere.

It is a shame

I wish you well on moving to Administration. I think that that's even a tougher job than teaching. So many facets that you have to deal with; The DOE, Superintendent and front office yahoos, the School board (if you live in a locale where one is elected), Whiny teachers, and lastly even more whiny parents. It certainly takes an even more unique person to be in administration.
