Help please with sound setup on my pc.

Postposted on Tue Jul 09, 2002 11:19 pm

Hi folk.

I have a 5 speaker stereo system connected up to a standard Sound Blaster 128 via the normal speaker output at the back of the card.

I need to purchase another sound card and not sure because I want to keep the surround sound setup for dvd's and stuff, but not too sure which cards support just a standard speaker out jack - as there's only an left+right AUX input on the stereo.

Any help, advice much appreciated.

Regards,
Smakky.

We need to get a dedicated sound forum or even a general hardware section. I'm just not sure how many sound enthusiasts will see this thread.

But anyways I'll help as much as I can.

When you mention "standard speaker out jack" will the front/rear speaker outputs qualify? Most sound cards still have those. Just use the front output as the speaker out and you should be fine.

Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade your sound card?

Check out TR's latest sound card review:

There's one card that you might be interested that wasn't reviewed and that's the Hercules Game Theater XP. Here's a review of that card:

Thanks Kevin.

I wasn't quite sure where to post it, but thought this one more relevant than another.

I am upgrading my sound card because I have to get one for my mum's PC... well I figured it best if I get a new one and give mum my old one... but I spose I could just get mum another cheap one. Trouble is, where I live there aren't many options of purchasing one. If I was to get a good one I spose I'd have to go online.

I have been eyeing off that hercules model, will have to look into it more.

Thanks mate.
