Had a problem trying to get the game to run in Steam- got a 'cannot connect to key server' message. The fix at the bottom under 'problem occurs after updating Steam' here worked.

Post your thoughts as you are able to!

Now Preloading!

To be released on January 26, and just in the last day or two available for pre-purchase on Steam.

My save games are ready, and I think I'll be playing through as a Soldier first.

If you're one of those people that pre-orders games, then you can get it at GoGamer (for PC) for $42 + shipping. That's the best deal, I've seen so far, but I haven't been watching it too closely.

Well, here's the thing: I don't really care if I pre-order it or not, I just want it on Steam (the best of the big three download shops, IMO). Steam has almost all of my other games as well. I'm posting because while one could order from D2D or Gamestop, and apparently some of the smaller ones I'm choosing to ignore, it hadn't appeared on Steam until a couple of days ago at most. That also means that i can start downloading it as soon as possible, instead of having to wait until release day to purchase it, and then start the download. Since I was getting it on Steam anyway, this puts me a little ahead.

Since the 'pirate' preview thread was locked, why don't we use this one as the official game discussion thread. I'll change the title accordingly.

This is one of my most anticipated games of 2010, and I won't be able to play it until May.

...and I have my lv 60 soldier save game ready when I get back.

This is probably the only game I'm looking forward to this year. Perhaps Bioshock 2 will be good, but I don't really have a lot of faith in a sequel to a game like that. I think they've already gotten everything out of that setting that they can get.

I'm currently wrestling with the decision of whether to buy the game now or wait until later. I know it will be $30 or less if I wait until the semester is over and I'll have more time to play it, but I'm not sure I can wait.

Mass Effect was like watching a movie, and for me, it has zero replayability value. Am I gonna sit through all that cut scenes and dialogue again? HELL NO. I'll take ME2 for $10.

Then you missed a whole lot :). With Bioware games, the first time you play through, you get to enjoy the story, but you still really haven't even learned how to play the game well yet. You've missed a lot of content, just out of not knowing to look. And even then, you've still only gotten the story from one direction- playing the game while making negative choices (if you made all positive ones the first time, and vice-versa) yields an experience that' changes more than enough to warrant at least a second playthrough. And here Mass Effect shines- I played through the first time making positive choices, Mr. Nice Guy etc, and playing through a second time making all negative choices was an experience all it's own. After those choices, I'm not sure that my corresponding Mass Effect 2 playthroughs will be even remotely similar!

Press space bar to hurry dialogue. I skip a lot of dialogue after the first play-through because I already know what they're about to say.

Something I dislike about Bioware games is that you have to pretend like you don't know what's going on even if you do.

On Feros I already knew that the Thorian was causing all the problems, but I have to go through all the hoops to find it out.

Bioware has to realize that a lot of people replay these games. Why not have the story play out slightly differently if the player has played before.

For example, let Shepard talk the truth out of someone and solve the problem on his own. Make the reason for going to the central tower to fight the Geth something different. It's very frustrating knowing that a problem is going to happen and being unable to do anything about it because the game won't let you.

I probably won't play this one in a long while... not until they release the GOTY edition with most of the upcoming DLC packed in. Besides, I still have tons of unplayed games on steam from the holiday sale :P .

Yea, I have about 6 months worth of games. Some newer, some older, but I'm not going to buy a depreciating game that I'm not going to have time to play.

They'll be releasing DLC for a while.
I had the same idea with Fallout 3. I wanted to play it, but it sat at $50 for a while and then DLC started coming out. Now I'm just waiting for the full package edition to come down in price.

I heard that IGN promised a 9+ rating in order to publish before the embargo. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Best thing is to wait for more reviews. If everyone gives it a 7, then we know IGN is full of feces. I trust the user ratings.

I'm sure that it will get a 9+ from every major site. If it was really disappointing, then IGN would probably withhold their review for fear of embarrassment and backlash.

I kinda agree with this, maybe I'm very conservative, but I hate all that DLC stuff for 10$ each and major PITA during installs/platform availability. But even DAO Collectors only included free download of sorts.

And it suck royally if you have to restart the game because DLC adds content mid-game.

I wasn't too impressed with the first half of the game. But then the plot really thickened and there was an unexpected twist, wow! If you, like me, didn't like the game at first.. stay with, it gets alot better!

Why does it seem like everyone goes Soldier? It's so boring not playing with tech powers or biotics. Also, I really hope I can see what's under Tali's mask.

I went soldier first in Mass Effect, and I'll probably go soldier first again, as I'll be continuing that character first. I think people like going soldier on the first run through because the soldier class is the easiest to understand, which takes some of the burden of learning the game off your shoulders. Once you've done your first run, if this game is like the first, then you're comfortable with the basic content and are more willing to branch into other specialties as you explore everything you missed the first time.

I played till about three in the morning this morning. I am dog tired at work but am salivating to play some more.

Here I thought World of Warcrack was a drug, damn Bioware makes one just as mean.

Damn you Bioware! First Dragon Age now ME2 whats next!? Oh yeah that little known MMO based on Star Wars...... /sigh

Biotics in the first ME were a little OP if you ask me. For now they seem just about right but we will see.

i'll be picking up the game later today, but won't be able to play until tomorrow i think.

from what i've seen from trailers, the different classes are much more differentiated than in ME1. this is good, since i've found classes in ME1 to be too homogeneous. i hope graphic requirements didn't go up. my 4890 was pretty borderline at 2048x1152, and i don't want to have to resort to dropping resolution.
