um. it's been upgraded to v1.4.2 since it came out that day...

Gleek runs a great server for survival mode, and I have a good time building on there. If anyone is interested though, I started up a vanilla 1.4.2 server with Creative mode. My son doesn't like playing Survival mode so I set it up for him and my nephew. It's obviously a family-friendly server, so no cussing, vulgarity, and griefing. If you want to join let me know and I'll PM you the information.

We hosted a pretty awesome Minecraft party on Saturday, maxed out with 13 people connected to the server I was running in my basement, more than half were onsite - first LAN party for most of them. :) 1.4.2 is pretty sweet.

Cool! What were the specs of the server running it?

It was my 2600k @ 4.2Ghz. Averaged ~15% CPU usage. :)

Just wondering if anybody else is running a server? I haven't played for a while and it looks like Gleek took his down, or changed the URL... Thanks!

When's 1.7 supposed to finally release? I will definitely want to check out the new stuff when that version comes out.

I'd rehost mine and let people on it (we had ~50 consistently active users at one point) but our poor DSL connection that we have now just can't handle much more than 2 people connecting. :(

I've got 50/25 and I'm willing to host, how many people are interested?

sonderweg.no-ip.biz for minecraft server

http://sonderweg.no-ip.biz/mcsvr for dynmap.

PM or post your minecraft username and I'll whitelist you.

Edit: keep it family-friendly, no swearing that wouldn't be acceptable on primetime TV or blocky depictions of objectionable content.

And please don't grief. With TR regulars I wouldn't think this would be a problem...

I am going to be off the air for like 30-60 minutes or so, post or pm if I've whitelisted you and you can't get in. I'll see if I can sort it out when I get back.

Thanks for checking it out guys!

Anyone on TR is more than welcome.

I'll update it to 1.7 whenever that comes out.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, let me know.

EDIT: If you want to see if anyone is on without actually logging into minecraft, feel free to check out the dynmap at http://sonderweg.no-ip.biz/mcsvr/

1.7.1 "The Update that Changed the World" is reputed to be coming out on Friday (October 25, 2013).

https://mojang.com/2013/10/minecraft-1- ... e=PourOver

I'm very excited to enjoy this newest release of Minecraft and I welcome anyone at TR to enjoy it with me on my server:

sonderweg.no-ip.biz
dynmap available at http://sonderweg.no-ip.biz/mcsvr (dynmap is a sort-of real-time map of the minecraft world available in a browser. It rocks when playing minecraft with dual monitors).

PM or post in this thread and I will add you to the white-list. Right now the server is running 1.6.4 and has a world that 5150 and I have built some stuff in.

That's where the next part comes in: I've always been bothered by the ephemeral nature of playing on minecraft worlds. You spend hours building something on a shared server, and then when you want to revisit your creations months later, they're gone. The server is down, gone, closed off, etc...

I have two ways of rectifying this:

1. I plan on making my daily backups of the minecraft world available on the same website that hosts dynmap. I haven't done this yet, but I will in the next few days. This way you can squirrel away our shared creations and use them on your own. Additionally, I've been on these forums for over a decade now and I don't plan on going anywhere. I've got these backups stored in a system that includes many drives, computers (and soon, geographical locations), so even if, in the future, my website is unavailable and you didn't download the backups in the past, you can just PM me on the forums.

2. There is a mod called multiverse that allows you to create portals between worlds. In other words, I could create a portal in my 1.6.4 world that leads to an all-new 1.7.1 world. That way we can explore a pristine wilderness of all-new 1.7.1 biome content but also maintain all the existing work in previous worlds. I haven't actually used this mod yet, but once 1.7.1 comes out I am planning on experimenting with it.

At any rate, as soon as 1.7.1 is available I will use it to create a new world. Hopefully this will happen on Friday. I'll keep this thread updated for anyone who is interested.

As someone who has put a lot of time into your current server, let me just say, "Burn it down and load up teh nu hawtness!"

Heh, ok I can do that too. You (and me) would be the only ones affected.

So, I guess I'll just make the backups available starting with the new 1.7.1 world. ;)

I just like seeing what everyone discovers, builds and creates. It kind of sucks that that stuff all just "disappears."

Very cool, Glorious.

I've poked around in the snapshots a bit, and it sure is different. Giant mushrooms in forest biomes, 2x2 tree trunks, new game settings...should be interesting.

Anywho, if you're firing up a new ("clean") world, it could be fun to coordinate the beginning of said world and build the basics. Is there a particular time this weekend that I should pop onto the server?

I'm still a couple hours from my work week's end. I'll probably fire Minecraft up as soon as I get home, though.

It's up. Check it out.

We can re-create the world if you guys don't like the seed.

I should be able to play a fair bit later on tonight.

my server is back up too for those who played on it previously, upgraded to 1.7.2 as well, still keeping it vanilla! :)

I'd like to grab screenshots later today, but Glorious's server is up and running. There's a farm and trading house near spawn to get new people started.

I converted the server to use a RAM disk for the minecraft world. Hopefully that will help with the chunk loading delay and maybe with 5150cd's lag issues. Let me know if it seems any better guys.

Re: Minecraft

by just brew it!

yup! still running great! no ram disk needed, no lag, it runs like a CRAY XK7 server! 8)

I don't think Glorious needed a RAMdisk, I'm still having some issues so I think the lag is just out in the cloud.

I wonder how 2 servers can be linked together (perhaps through a bukkit mod or via portal)?

probably more difficult then its worth. however, i've seen mega-servers that can handle 6,000+ users on at once... crazy!

Yeah, I'm not sure how you would connect two servers in different locations. You could shut down both servers, save the maps, and bring them back up with a combined hub that links to different maps.

And yeah, I was on one of those servers a couple weekends ago when the Mindcrack guys did a fundraiser. Two creative maps, two survival maps, and two king of the ladder maps. Basically, anyone who donated $20 or more got whitelisted, and I think I saw almost 6,000 people on the sever once or twice.
