For some reason I think you got the opinion that I dislike the game, which I really dont. If that were the case, I wouldnt play it and be at lvl 37 already. What I do know is that since I've played most of the FPS-games since Wolf-3D, came out, I also know what I like and dislike about things. I would also like to point out that these are opinions, and you are entitled to yours and dont have to aggree with me. And the same goes the other way of course. But I dislike fiddling with economy when I want to play a fast FPS-game.
Than I also aggree with Chun¢, they couldve had more attention to detail in some ways with the weapons. Having the python snubnose being a mod for higher accurucy feels backwards. Yeah, I havent compared shooting a snubnose and full lenght revolver in person, and snub noses can be accurate, they still require more skill to shoot and longer distances.
My biggest gripe is still the levels in some ways. They sure are pretty, but when I play them, even though they look different, they play mostly the same. I feel that MW2 had better diversity in its levels. Compare Rust, Favela, Cabin and Afghan for example. They vary wildly in both looks, but also in how you can play them. The levels are more similar between themselves in Black Ops. That could easily be remedied with a map pack they will probably charge for if I know activision though.
mslowe7187 wrote:how do wager matches detract from the game? it only adds, and it is very fun imo. and i think the perks are much better balanced. so did you like getting noob tubed and commando stabbed every 5 seconds in mw2? because that really doesnt happen in black ops at all, thanks to the way treyarch balanced and fixed the perks. how is that a wrong choice, to make a more balanced game? its obvious you were an intervention quick scoper in mw2 since youre pissed about the no quick scoping thing, just because treyarch decide to not cater to that lame playstyle doesnt mean that it was a wrong choice
I didnt say that all changes were bad. My thoughts on the various matters are these:
* Noobtube - having tube resupplied by scavanger was a mistake in mw2 which I am glad that they removed. Although one could allow for a single resupply of the tube, not not endless.
* You havent played enough, people are still going rampage with commandostabbing and it still works well. especially in the small levels still, just that they removed the ridicously long lunges, but it still exists, and can be used to good effect. And yes, Lightweight, Marathon and Steady aim still works fine for doing shotgun/akimbo pythons/tomahawk/knifing fast enough. But yeah, cutting down the lunge range and gun/knife cuts down on the amount of people doing it and raises the skill requirement, which is good.
* Quickscoping still takes skill to use properly. Its not an automatic win that most non quickscopers seems to think. Right now the snipers having a large time penalty on ADS is a way serious disadvantage making the whole class of weapons very ineffective and hence get people to camp more. Which personally, I think is a bit of a bad tradeoff. What this should be taken against is that most weapons still have laser accurucy on the first shot, even with fast ADS and reddot. Havent tried out the m14+acog combo yet, but that would probably be decent replacement for the old quickscoping.
* Wager matches are fine, in that the game modes are good, pricepool is a nice reward, etc. I've always been a big big fan of gungame for example. But if you want to just go in and do some gun game, and havent played that much, or just bought a load of money, it forces you to play TDM or whatever to raise entry money. Not that its too much, its just that it is. And this is what detracts from the experience. Its not hard to raise the money, a single round, but the question is WHY. In that case, make it 10 grand permanent entry fee or something.
* Contracts. Theres no way to manage contracts between rounds, its just a way for people to have to quit, go into the meny, fiddle around. The price of the contracts is a measle, since most of the contracts give back less money then what it takes to go inside and choose the damn things. And since when did you have to put a wager on contracts. Just let em be normal time based challanges that are directed to the weapons you use for each day and be done with it. Not to mention that they are buggy. Some contacts you buy, exit the menu, and they disapperared. Several times I've gotten "contracts filled" emblem inside the game, just for the round to end and go out in the menu, uploading stats, then be met with the "contract has expired". Yeah, treyarch, thats 4000/4000 you owe me just this weekend in buggy high-end contracts.
* Killstreaks are still unbalanced on some maps. Being hit with 3 mortars and 5 napalm in a single round is just as bad as mw2. Oh, and even the first chopper has flares, and guess what, you only got one shot in the first launcher.

They have been fixing things right along.
MP Lag/stutter has been patched/fixed.
Server browser friends tab now works.
Having fun online with this game.
Aphasia wrote:and they made a whole lot of wrong choices about it. Contracts, wager-matches, perk-setups, etc, no quick-scoping, etc.
These are all good things.
Contracts, wager-matches are an added dimension to the game.
Lean, prone, dedicated servers
Good looking MP maps
Game runs good on my ancient machine.
Props to Treyarch
* Server browser and menus still freezes up/twitches every X seconds, so no, thats not fixed yet. Most of the lag stutter has been fixed, not all though. Still, I would be a hypocrite if I didnt mention that yeah, while I may be bummed out about it not being fixed on release, I'm not surprised at all, especially since BC2 and just about all other games seems to have issues at launch nowdays. And on some maps, the whole game still stutters to if you enter a room at high speed if there are people there. I dont know what the issue is, but since latency is below 50ms, and I have a 100/10 lines that give that effectively and works fine in all other games, networking is not the problem. Except for that the whole game run just fine in 1920x1200 so...
* Friends tab, yay, you can join on friends, and thats a good fix.
* See above for what I think about contracts and the wager fees.
* Lean on the other hand is nice, not that I use it that much, even though at time it has given me a few good killstreaks on CTF/Domination rounds.
* Prone - they had it in mw2, but after having played alot of BC2 and hated dolphins in BF2... yeah the dolphins are back, and I do my best to erase them. The good thing is that true dolphin diving in Black Ops comes with a time penalty for weapons use, and that was a really good choice. While I think prone in itself is alright, the dolpins misuses it too much. But diving through a window on the second floor, landing in the grass outside and killing somebody out on the field, yeah, its a VERY nice killcam.
