What type of games are you into? Been enjoying myself some Battlefield: Bad Company 2, as well as Dawn of War 2.

Yogibbear hit most of the high notes for a "best of" list.

I would argue that planescape should be higher though.

I also like the later mechwarrior games more. Basically, the later you go the better they get imo.

The other glaring hole is he mentioned Half Life 2, but not Half Life. Even by today's standards, the only thing it lacks is graphics and theres a project to fix that. Don't know if thats done but I think they are releasing it on steam.

My favorite PC games?

*I'm basing this list from how many hours I put into it/how many times I beat it/hours skirmished with computer. HL2/Starcraft and Portal are excellent games and enjoyed them very much, but I didn't replay them much.

Half-life 1 (I've lost count of how many times I've played this)
Unreal Tournament Classic (UT2k4 is jolly good fun as well) for just running around shooting bots (or getting owned by them)
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
Command and Conquer: Generals
Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Fallout 3
Plants vs. zombies (did I seriously spend over 40hours playing this?)
StarCraft II (I just had to get all the single player achievements in the missions on hard...resulted in me playing some missions many times over)

You played the single player extensively but not multiplayer? Come on man, hop on the ladder and get your ass kicked... I promise it will be worth your while :D

Batman Arkham Asylum is a terrific game with a fairly high re-play value. I highly recommend it.

Like, ever, or just recently?

TIE Fighter was one of the greatest games I ever played. I still have my MS-DOS floppy disk based version. Runs just great in DOSBox.

Mechwarrior II and III rocked super hardcore as well.

Sam and Max Hit The Road was hilarious. Still makes me laugh 15 years later.

Starcraft I is still pretty much gold standard stuff, even decades later, and with its sequel making everyone forget the original.

Max Payne 1 and 2 made bullet-time super cool on PC, even as the Wachowski brothers were screwing up their property by releasing Matrix:Reloaded and Matrix:Revolutions.

Half-Life 2 is still one of the only games I can think of where the physics model was well incorporated into the gameplay. Oh, and it didn't require any PhysX b.s., either.

More recently, I've liked Modern Warfare 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Civilization 4.

Some games I haven't liked recently: Crysis, Left for Dead 2, Galactic Civilizations, Need for Speed: Shift. I won't go into why I feel the way I do, but that's not to say that you might not enjoy them.

I'm currently playing Bad Company 2, and thus far, don't like it much, unfortunately. I was initially drawn to the game because of the completely destructible environments, and the concept is vastly underused in singleplayer. The storyline is horrible (even worse than The Rock/24-lite stuff in MW2), your squadmates have all the intelligence of pond amoebae, and the missions are all pretty much rip-offs of other, better FPS. The only time I smiled was when they inserted that inside joke about SPECOPS losers running around with heartbeat monitors - a direct zing at MW2 - but other than that, meh.

Back in the day (CS 1.6) I played multiplayer. A lot. So much that I there were a few courses I just passed because the professors liked me. That was a wake-up call. In the past 5 years (excluding allying with friends and taking on the computer AI), I've played...maybe 10 hours? Yeah, that seems about right.

Now, when I buy a game, it's 100% for single player.

My vote for favorite PC game goes to Diablo 2 with the expansion pack. I think I've played that game over 1,000 hours.

Right now definitely Starcraft II. I'm having a ball with the game, been playing it almost exclusively since July, except to get back into WoW some and to use my free HAWX2 coupon.

The original Starcraft is high on my list, as is Diablo II. I loved Supcom and FA, mostly for multiplayer, and I love Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights. I'm just not an FPS person (with a couple exceptions, I love the whole UT series, L4D and Portal), adventure game person, space sim person, what have you. Strategy and RP games, baby.

Hi Guys,
I think in soccer history the best games from EA electronics are EA fifa world cup 2002 and EA fifa world cup 2006, when you will play you will feel the pure quality of Electronic Arts. These games are very famous among soccer players worldwide. All other stuff from EA soccer is also good. but these too :D

BF2
Mech Warrior 2
Halo PC
Sonic CD
Everquest
Diablo
CoH/CoV
Crysis

I enjoyed them all but I probably played BF2 and Halo the most.

EDIT: forgot about Megaman X. Loved that game. Not to mention all the games I played at the cyber cafe after school like CS, AVP and COD2.

In terms of time invested probably Q3. I spent pretty much all nonworking hours in late 1999- mid 2000 playing that game. I think the only thing that stopped me was jumping on a semi-pro server and getting my ass handed to me with machine guns alone and realizing I was never going to be that good even given the time investment.

In terms of pure fun probably Half Life 2. I wasn't even particularly enamored of the plot, but it was just great balanced fun all throughout.

The second System Shock is what I consider to be probably amongst the best designed games of all time.

It's rare these days a game keeps my attention. Usually there is an event that occurs in the game that pisses me off or is too jumpy or silly to withhold my disbelief or isn't worth my time so I move on. The Witcher is the last game I finished to completion, and has been my favorite game for the past year.

Half-Life... I spent soooo many hours on this game if you include the seemingly endless number of mods that were created. Just played through Neil Manke's "They Hunger" series last month; it's still one of my favorites.

Half-Life 2... see above, only with better graphics and physics.

Neverwinter Nights... again, too many mods to count for this one; many of them better than the original.

Neverwinter Nights 2... see above, only with better graphics.

FarCry... loved this game, and - again - lots of player made mods to enjoy.

Deus Ex... I loved this game when it came out, mainly because of there being so many different ways to play it. Some good mods, too.

Counter Strike: Source... when I play multiplayer (which isn't that often) it's either this or a mod of this called Insurgency.

I'm pretty confident World of Warcraft crushes all other games for me in time spent. I think 2nd might be Civilization II.

Just off the top of my head:

Quake2 (first great online/lan shooter)
BF1942 (redefined what FPS are)
L4D2 (best game in years IMO)
Thief 1+2
Counter-Strike (played it obsessively in HS)
HL
Mafia
Vampire Bloodlines (favorite RPG ever, and it was actually a challenge)
Age of Empires II (best RTS ever IMO)
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Starcraft
Live For Speed (best online racing ive ever had and great physics)
Borderlands
GTA:SA
Amnesia (scariest damn game ever made)
STALKER (any of em)

Right now I'm mainly playing BF3, Skyrim, and L4D2.

Diablo II

No question there for me. I can't wait for III, though my social life and academics can.

I'm also really looking forward to the Half Life series. Don't have them yet, plan to buy on Boxing Day when Steam usually has a massive sale.

The standard SS2, deus ex, descent, Quake2, doom2, H-L. Unreal stood out pretty well too, for it's sound, music, and atmosphere. There's a new 227 patch out that adds hi-res textures, sound options, and classic weapons. Highly recommended, but nothing beat playing 219 with a vortex2.
