Maybe to people who haven't followed id/carmack through the years. That article isn't the big GOTCHA that you think it is, rather it's meaningless. Carmack stated his mind on DX, and that's all it was. Carmack's the Steve Jobs of gaming, so people listen to his musings. Regardless, id+opengl are synonymous. They didn't start out developing games for the 360, but PC, and OpenGL allowed porting to linux and mac. They also release their games source code after a few years go by. I dunno man. You people complain about PC games, and yet you have absolutely no idea what a PC game is, or who pioneered it. Ironic, isn't it?
As long as id stays within their core values, they have a loyal customer here. I don't care what nonsense gets spread about their games, I'll buy them as long as I still enjoy playing them.

Here is the preview from an IGN guy who actually played the game, he was awed by visual fidelity.

That's true. Doom3 could even run on a GF4MX, which was a GF2, and on the high end supported 512mb dx9 cards. I have a feeling rage will be the same way, due to the megatexture engine.

Agreed, i have played DooM 3 on P4 1.7GHZ & GF 440MX 64MB ram @ low setting with 25-35 FPS.

Graphics, graphics, graphics, that's all some PC gamers ever talk about. I think the game looks great, and I think graphics as a whole has reached a point of diminshing returns. Rage as a game looks like it will be the first really *fun* id game since Quake 2, and I plan on picking it up for the PS3 at launch.

Pretty much my pov, except buying it for a console seems like a waste. I'm sure it'll be fine, but you'll miss out on the extra capabilities of a pc.

Everything's a trade off. The extra capabilities of the PC (prettier and WASD) aren't worth it to me.

I feel your point, but I think that Carmack has something cool up his sleeve for console owners as well. I'll bet that Rage looks better on the PS3 and 360 than we would think to be possible :).

Dunno how you guys can comment on the graphics from a crappy compressed online video?! These things NEVER look as good as when your computer's rendering itself. Even the 1080p vids of the tech demo's etc never look as clean as when I run them myself.

Plus, that's obviously a controller being used, so its possible that's footage from xbox or PS3 (unless it specified somewhere? I wasn't looking).

Graphics aside, I can't wait, it looks awesome!

Finally a little bit of sanity injected into this thread thanks to mikehodges2. Youtube isn't going to do this justice. I'm sure.
