Good to see that it is back up again! I didn't get a response from the Gameservers staff on my open ticket until about an hour ago.

Like I said I am trying to get people from work to grab the game so we can fill the server. I will definitely be on this weekend, times are iffy because I have some things to do but I will be on.

I configured the server to start with a minimum of 6 players, so that might make it easier for us to play instead of waiting for 8 people.

We have ours set as:

vars.roundRestartPlayerCount 1

No waiting.

It fills up and stays full in the evening.
We just put our clan members in the "reserved' slots.
We'll see how that works out tonight.

I think I figured out the problem with autobalancing. The variable in the config file was set like so:

    vars.autoBalance 1
when it needed to be

    vars.autoBalance true

At least, that's what the forums on Gameservers say. I changed the variable; we'll see if it works.

Cool. I guessed as I couldn't find any guidance in how it should be set.

We had a pretty good crowd for a while Friday evening, but I think the only gerbils present were Dizik and me.

Maybe we need to try to plan a TR night in advance? Unfortunately, I can usually only do Friday evening - Sunday afternoon.

Doesn't. It's broke.

reserved slots is not working properly at the moment for the server regardless of what changes are done on the config file. This has been noted to DICE and they are aware of this.

Gameservers actually deployed two server patches yesterday - apparently DICE released one of them just yesterday afternoon. Here's a list of the fixes.

    R7 patch
    - Fix for rubber banding
    - TDM/SQDM spawn point fix
    - 2 crash fixes in end of round
    - Fix for connection problem when joining password protected servers
    - Removed ‘vars.allUnlocksUnlocked’. once ranked server settings are enforced, this may come back in some form.
    - Also server player queuing has been added -> feature subsequently turned off due to server crashes.

    R6 patch
    - End of round crash fix
    - Connection fix to avoid players occasionally being rejected during a join attempt
    - Ghost server fix
    - Enhanced kick reasons to better match situations for which they are issued

If i may ask, how did you configure the player requirement from 8 to 6. I'm a staff on eximius gaming and we have a battlefield 3 server running on the primary hardware. Problem is the total amount of people that play battlefield 3 in that community is 8 right now. Makes it tough to start up some battles.

You need to change two lines in your start up text.
We have ours set so that only 2 players are needed to start a game.

vars.roundStartPlayerCount 2
vars.roundRestartPlayerCount 1

Yeah, the "8 players to start" requirement pretty much sucks. The trouble is, it is my understanding that if you change the startup requirement settings, your server will no longer accept quick match applicants. That may not affect your situation, but just be aware.

On our server, there is a config file under the Admin folder called startup.txt. In that file, you should find two lines that read something like this:

    vars.roundStartPlayerCount 8
    vars.roundRestartPlayerCount 4

Edit those numbers to lower your server's start/restart requirement.

Server patch R8 is currently being deployed. Changelog:

    Crashfixes

RCON bugfixes; banList.add can now ban on player name

Fixes for team & squad handling, both during and between rounds

Server’s online state is displayed in the “GameId:” field in the server window (see server provider documentation)

Anyone else notice this modification to our server name?

Gerbilgeddon - Dallas, TX - Double XP!

For the record, I didn't put that last part in there. I'm guessing our hosting company did it to try to help us attract players.

Is your server "hard core" or "vanilla"?

I try to keep it pretty much at stock settings. The only thing I've tweaked are the number of players to start. Oh, and Dizik and I have both fiddled with the map rotation.

It looks like Gameservers.com's entire Dallas data center may be offline. Many of your favorite BF3 servers may be currently unavailable (including ours).

Hey LJA, I don't know if Dizik has mentioned it or not but I think the consensus was that more tickets should be given to the attacking team on the Rush games since the server is running 64 slots. Maybe up it to 100 or slightly more, though we probably want to keep it under 150. With twice as many players as usual, the tickets run out twice as quickly.

I did a little research into this. Apparently, it isn't currently possible to edit the number of tickets in Rush mode.

For now, I think the only solution is to switch out the large Rush maps for the small Rush maps.

EDIT: There are no size-specific Rush maps. I guess I could drop vars.maxPlayers to 32, which will limit all maps to 32 players, but that seems like a waste when we're paying for 64 slots.

Our server started to fill up around 10 pm last night. Apparently, for the first time it stayed that way all night long, and is completely full as I write this.

Bad timing, I guess. Ironically, the server started filing up again at almost exactly the same time you posted this.
