The Witcher 2 serious input lag

TW2 always seemed like a great game to me, so when I saw it on sale at Amazon for $16 I decided to buy it. However, I've been plagued by serious input lag once in game. At the splash menu the cursor acts normal. Once in game, even with vsync off and most graphical options turned down (SSAO / ubersampling being the reportedly biggest culprits) it feels like the KBM suffers from high input lag, e.g. "mouse soup." It's as if vsync is still on.

I read somewhere that since these movements are software accelerated and not hardware inputs there will be lag if your system is slow. Possible? Anyone have an illuminating info to share?

My specs:

C2D E7200 @ 3.4 Ghz
6 GB ram
4850 512

Just for a bit of followup, perhaps it was not as bad as I thought it was. The game is playable. Most likely due to my now-anemic GPU.

I have a Phenom II X4 940, 4GB RAM, and an HD4870 512MB. The GPU is definitely a bottleneck for this game even on Low.

I'd get significant slowdowns (into the teens) when going into some trading screens- sometimes it would go away after 20 seconds or so. Doesn't seem to be a fix, though the game has been patched multiple times (I have it on Steam).

I was thinking of taking a step up to GTX 560 Ti territory, as my card is getting old and the better idle consumption would be neat, but I'm not sure if it would help the input lag. It probably would.

My resolution, for completeness, is 1440 x 900.
