YAY!

:o Whoa, it actually is gonna happen! Hopefully they had enough time to "polish up" and get rid of as many bugs as possible...

Great news! I purchased and played HL2 and the 2 episodes, but i kept myself from playing Half Life just to see if i could play this Black Mesa mod :)
I guess you need HL2 to play this mod, or what?

Haha, I was just commenting to someone last month that I felt like I wanted to fire up HL and play through it again (for the 5th time...or is the 6th time). This is perfect. But what's this about no Xen?

I had written it off as "never going to happen." Glad to be surprised though.

I know I am going to be disappointed: Almost a decade late and incomplete, I expect the game feels rough around the edges as the people working on it (for free) got bored and disillusioned.

I honestly thought it was dead for good, but given how much work has gone into it so far it would be a shame not to release what they've done. I suppose no matter how good or bad it is, at least they didn't take as much time as Valve to release new content....

I'm still not sure what the point of this project is after HL: Source was released. I know they did a lot of customization of the graphics, but still, seems like it wasn't really necessary.

My point was that Valve did release a graphically updated Half Life called Half Life: Source which also had physics updates.

I guess this is Half Life: Source v2 'now with some even better graphics' but still...meh, it's been sooo long.

I'm there with you MadmanO. There are so many more games that could/should be redone. Do we need a third crack at the 1st Half Life?

I'd rather see an updated KOTOR, Betrayal at Krondor, King's Quest, or Space Quest. Shoot, I'd settle for a re-make of Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear.

Using which engine? Source? That would probably be much harder than doing original HL --->BMS. I also highly doubt EA would approve of that anyway.

Half-Life:Source looked almost as "bad" as the original one. I believe Vale didn't even bother with creating newer, higher-resolutions textures for it... The point of BMS was to implement better textures, better lighting and better models for everything, using more recent version of Source engine. They also did other things like new voice-overs and new soundtrack (which is not necessarily better, have to play the game to see if it is).

If the BM trailer is up to date, then it doesn't look like something crazy. When I started watching, I thought to myself - wait, isn't it the original HL?

Of course, if it's created voluntary by modders who are not even paid anything, it's a great feat.

The again, HL was about gameplay and fun, so, who cares.

Don't get me wrong, chances are I will play this, it just would have been a whole lot more awesome if it had come out like 5 years ago.

Episode 2 took so long to come out that I actually replayed HL2 and Episode 1 a week before it came out to get me back in the mood.

If HL3 or Episode 3 ever come out, I think I would enjoy playing the whole of the Half-Life franchise from the beginning, and I would pick BMS rather than the original.

If you haven't yet you should vote Black Mesa up on steam greenlight. As it stands right now it's at 9%.

I don't remember if this applied to Source or not (been a couple years since I played Source HL), but I do know for certain that there is a high-res pack that was released for the original HL. It changed the MP5 to an M16 with M203 and made the crow bar "worn" by showing paint chips. I don't know if Valve released that or not.

Thanks for that link, I'm starting download now, and it will take quite a while. Any clue on when will this be on steam?

Agreed.
'Betrayal At Krondor' and the 'Kings Quest' series were games I remember with pleasure.
Those games were unashamedly 'Good vs. Evil'. Their Heros were noble males&females who fought for the Good against incredible odds---and their Word was their bond.
I'd love to see remakes of those great Games, in modern graphics. But I guess thats a vain hope. :)
Today's top-selling Games seem mostly bloody slaughter-feasts, and the 'hero' is often as scummy as the 'villain'.

Well, it was accepted by Valve for distribution:

Loving it so far - except for the motion-sickness... :( I don't understand why some games get me and others don't. I've never had trouble with Source a engine game before... :-?

Maybe it's your 27" Korean monitor that's getting you.

I have been playing it for 2 hours, and all I can say is that they've made a great work with Black Mesa. It has been well worth the wait for it! Big congrats to all developers of this mod/game !

Keep upping the FoV until you stop getting motion sick.
