Not too bad. Aliens feel a bit weak but I expect that's because it's a demo. Still gonna wait until people review it.

I've played the demo.I was really hopping to be good.The demo was 6 gb for 20-30 min of gameplay,but was very poor ,in some cases was like 1 frame per second.Even the mouse was moving very slow ,sometime a had the impression of crash was imminent . Even prerender cut scene had problems.
I've played the demo on 6850 and q9400 and 4g ram.
The first mission was the tutorial no decision ,second was the real demo some control over squad in combat.Controls where simple .but some buggy .
I really like a couple of years go ,UFO series especially first Aftermath,second was good.

Maybe graphics driver issues?

I had everything (except Ambient Occlusion) set to High on my 6950 Q9450 on Windows 7 x64 and it ran flawlessly (although the graphics are somewhat dated for a late-2012 game).

Tired the demo

Feel too much like a tutorial then anything else.

The game suffers too much from consolitis. They striped most of the "strategic" elements that X-COM 1, 2 and 3 had. I suppose it is because that would add too much to the learning curve which would be too much for today's gaming audience.

something must be up because the demo ran fine on my quad-core mac pro with a radeon 6850 (in bootcamp). i played it at 1920x1080 with most of the options turned all the way up (except multisampling, which I think was at low/medium, and shadows, which was on medium).

I thought the demo was fun, but I'm gonna wait for the xbox 360 demo to compare the two - i'm not a big fan of having to restart my PC just to play a game.

The mouse cursor should render directly to the framebuffer and thus at monitor refresh rate. I think they fixed this in the retail version, so I'll buy this game after all

Replaced software cursor with the operating system cursor to reduce lag and framerate dependence.
YES! feels so much better now. Please keep it up with the UI improvements.

I've been playing X-COM: Enemy Unknown this week. I'll give it a big thumbs up for capturing some important elements from the original game: The spookiness of exploring an area and not knowing when or where or what kind of aliens will appear to attack your squad is exciting. The turn-based tactical combat is excellent, truly in the style of the original but with modern graphics and cinematics.

Recommended.

Haven't played it in a while, been stuck in other games, but I truly agree, they captured a good piece of the old game, while making it more modern and much slicker controller wise. The old game was pretty fiddly when it comes down to it. That said, standing right just beside a cyberdisc, missing the shot needed to take it down, realizing it will heal... can be intense...

I recently dove back into this as well. I'm loving the hell out of it. I'm getting my butt kicked, but it's a fun ride.
