Well the title is pretty self explanatory....

Well I was just playing a steam game, and steam crashed my computer. Now nothing on steam can connect to any servers, so ya, I think it just went down.

Nope it's not down for me. I've been playing flawlessly for last 3 hrs.

Steam often has momentary issues when doing the main store page update of the day.

Likely he meant "steam crashed on my computer"

Well, I guess I meant to say: "My computer crashed while playing a steam game. It would seem to be a very nice coincidence that steam happens to go down at the exact moment my computer crashed (crashing being abnormal), so I am lead to believe that steam caused the crash."

Well, Steam appears to be fully functional again, also Magicka weekend freebie.

That's like saying you crashed into a bridge while listening to Pandora, so Pandora caused the crash.

Software crashing your computer is very unlikely these days. Your hardware and drivers might, but Steam? I'm sure someone believes it.

My wife is absolutely convinced that Metallica causes car accidents. All of the accidents she and our oldest daughter have had occurred while Metallica was playing on the car stereo. Who am I to argue?

In a perfect world you are correct. But given the organically complex nature of current APIs, the sorry state of software QA in general, and how intimately 3rd party software tends to be entwined with the OS (don't get me started), I'm not willing to rule it out. Yeah, Steam should not have the ability to crash the OS... but "should not" is not the same as "can not".

How about 'does not' then.

It does not.

We're past the days of Windows XP where anything and everything could muck up your kernel, at least. That certainly didn't help matters.

Also you forgot about every processor generation and several revisions per gen having different errata.

But that would be hardware.

Anyway, I'm off to stack wood.
