System Shock 2 comes to GOG.com

What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Yeesh. I think I might just be out ten bucks now.

You know, I kind of wish they'd port games like this and Chaos Overlords to android.
Not clones or spiritual successors - the actual ones.

This is great news. The interview on RPS was terrible though. The new rights holder didn't want to discuss anything, including the superficial.

I may toss in $10 just to avoid the hassles of installing and patching the game to run on modern systems. This is terrific news.

Never played it before, but I'm really excited to be able to easily give it a whirl. Hopefully it's not over hyped at this point.

It's not over-hyped;

It will probably feel unoriginal because so many other games were inspired by it and borrowed gameplay ideas from it.
It will look very dated.

This is always the problem with old games, but it doesn't make them bad. ;)

There are graphics mods you can try to make the game look more modern, but IMO you should play it without first.

Oohh I played this game a few years back with a friend of mine, great fun. I was running around like a scare chicken because I chose to be a psionic and didn't really have any good offence except the ice ball attack. We also had a lot of problems with crashing. We had to assign the process to one CPU, and add some files to the HDD if we got a "too little hdd space available" message, but we still finished it. good times

I haven't searched for any of the graphics mods yet, but does anyone have any they recommend?

edit: I guess PCGamer already had something up for this:

No, maybe the texture update, but I don't think any of them are faithful reproductions of shock's original assets and actually detract from the immersion factor. IMO, the low polygon models actually add to the strangeness compared to the modern alternatives. I was watching that video of the ghost comparison, and the original was definitely creepier.
