Re: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Official Benchmark

Necropost! ( *´艸`)

Decided to re-benchmark since someone in IRC was talking about it (11,705 on an FX-6300 @ 4.4Ghz and GTX 770 @ ~1.2Ghz).

CPU @ 4.4Ghz, GTX Titan @ 1202Mhz.

So I wonder if NVIDIA did some optimizin' since last April, or if Windows 8.1 is to thank? Probably some of both, realistically. Still, (≧◇≦)b

^ or it could be that they changed it with a totally different benchmark.

Your last benchmark post with a screenie the bench was called "Exploration", this new one is "Character Creation".

The benchmark is the same - the .exes are even named the same (relevant to nvidia driver profile) - this one just has the character creator added on.

I'll try to run the bench again soon, but with an A10-7850K and a 660 I doubt it'll be terribly impressive

The game's not too bad now. I still fall into the MMO trap of paying for a month and playing it maybe five or six days total. Why bother spending the money? I don't even know.

Only ran it once. Moderately overclocked 3930K (4.2 GHz) and a pair of minimally overclocked HD 7970s (1100 MHz)

3770K/GTX780, both at stock. I'll ran overclocked results later if anyone cares.

My good old 2009 by then high end rig scores close to half as much as a 2013 one. Yay for progress.

As far as I know, Crossfire and SLI still aren't supported, so you're getting that score on ONE 7970! ( ̄д ̄) Unless it is supported now. Not sure. Still no frame pacing since it's DX9 tho.

Looking at the results, I'm not sure if my original thesis that the benchmark is CPU-limited is accurate or not. Can you disable one 7970 (to be sure; or disable Crossfire) and test again, Cynan?

Hehe, we have nearly the same machine and got nearly the same score. As expected, I guess, but I dunno, it makes me giggle. (*'▽')

Hows everyone finding the game?
Still playing?

I played FF11 for years, stupidly picked black mage first and could never get passed Lvl 30 is, as unless you had 4 hours to spare, it wasnt worth playing. As you had to wait a couple of hours to find a party, as you cant solo after lvl15, and after 2hours waiting, you want a good hour of playing in a group to START to get some decent XP

Just couldnt do it after a while of college, uni etc hovvering over me, spending money on something wasnt playing or wasnt worth playing each month.

Heard this one is alot better though, and sorted out the grind.

I played it for a good while in the 1.0 version. I enjoyed it, despite the frustrations.

Now, with "A Realm Reborn" (which is the 2.0 update), I can't get into it. It's basically Final Fantasy-themed World of Warcraft with a dash of TERA Online. Still targeting-based, still grindy, doesn't have nearly as much cross-class play as the original game did (which was what drew me to it). All the fun crafting minigames are gone. (´ー`)ノㇱ

I played FF11 for 7.5 years. Best years of my life. FF11 still remains near the top of my "favorite games of all time" list. Despite everything you said, which is all more or less true. It's true that if you didn't have a solid group to play with, the game was an exercise in frustration. Luckily, I started out with my brother and his friends, then learned Japanese and played with that community (which was just way, way better than the NA or EU communities), and eventually graduated to running my own linkshell.

Not really. It's somewhat less grindy, but that's sort of like saying a BMW 7 series is "somewhat less expensive" than a Lamborghini. It's still pretty grindy, and the gameplay itself is fairly repetitive and, to me, as someone who has played thousands of hours of targeting MMOs (FFXI, WoW, EQ2, Aion, Lineage 2, City of Heroes, Champions Online, Warhammer Online, and more), it's just not that interesting.

Play Final Fantasy for the story and for the experience (visuals, community) rather than for the gameplay. If you really want to enjoy the game, learn Japanese and play on the Japanese servers! (*'▽')

I liked ARR (arrrr!) enough but I only got a month or so out of it. Not a big MMO guy to begin with though and I did like it.
