Illumiroom: headache-inducing gimmick or legit?

Kinect + projector = Illumiroom. Do you think MS has a chance getting people to buy into this or will it be yet another of their recent side ventures to go down in obscurity?

It's important that we explore these things. Even if they aren't a commercial success, it's one step towards the future and that's all that matters.

People buy consoles for the games. This cannot be said enough, some people think it's about tech or marketing.

So if this thing launches with unique, high-quality games that take advantage of the tech to improve the experience, it will sell. Examples: Kinect sold very well because Kinect Adventures, specifically, did something the Wii didn't. PS Move didn't do anything better than the Wii so it didn't sell.

Since no games have been announced for it, it will fail.

The extended FOV concept is pretty cool I think. Bummer that it will probably be too expensive to be worth the bother though.

I kind of agree. The other simulated effects look sort of, erm, gimmicky.

However, If you were going to buy a device with a projector that is really only functional in a light-controlled room, Why not skip the TV and Illumiroom and put the money into a real 1080p projector and 120" (or whatever size you can accommodate) screen? You would loose the extended FOV, but is it really necessary if most of your usable peripheral vision is taken up by the main subject anyway?
