They probably do, but if you don't make money you can't deliver the goods. For every big title like Sims and Battlefield there's plenty of stuff that doesn't sell nearly as well.
What I personally dislike is that these companies are public and subject to the whims of leeches(/shareholders) over what they actually want to do. I'm sure it got them where they are today but I highly doubt it does much for them anymore.
