LCD not working on my laptop

its actually my girlfriends laptop. It is a sager, but I am not sure of the specs or serial number, she got it as a gift. Anyway, one day I go to boot it up and the lcd wont come on. I am pretty sure it is booting up but not positive. I have no idea what would cause this problem. I have no exerience with laptops so I dont know where to begin. Any advice on where to start to trace the problem would be greatly appreciated. thanks

i have not hooked up a monitor to it because I dont have possession of it right now. If that works though then that means the problem is the lcd right? and if that is so how do I go about fixing it. Do I just have to drop the cash to get it fixed?

Ok before it stopped woking did you have a monitor hooked up? What kind of Video card is in it?
