Win2K has a routine (maketo create a series of boot floppy disks, that you can then use to get the install going via CD. I haven't tried it on many laptops, but it's pretty bullet-proof, in that I've never had it fail to detect and mount the CD for installation purposes.
It's called "MAKEBOOT" and it's in the "BOOTDISK" folder. Place disk in working computer, go to a DOS window, and have four blank floppies ready.
