Notebook Help Needed.....Please

Postposted on Wed Sep 22, 2004 11:13 pm

I have a Compaq 2800T which I am led to believe is similiar to the Compaq EVO 800. The left button under the touchpad has quit working. I have located the replacement part, a small board on which the switches are mounted and it attaches with a ribbon cable. The question is: How do I open the case to exchange the boards????? At first glance I could remove the screws from the bottom of the case, but is the right way to go? Or, is there a way to remove the bezel that surrounds the keyboard and touchpad/buttons and go in that way? Are there any "tricks of the trade" or hidden catches that I should know about? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jerry

The question is moot. The part arrived this morning and is installed. Had to remove 20-30 screws, a couple of tin heat shields and few more hidden screws wha-la everything is fixed. $29 for parts and shipping.

I've found it quite easy to dismember a compaq laptop, my presario 1277 is quite easy, it seems that compaq likes to make there laptops very "modular" if you will, various scews take off certain plates, which gain you access to certain parts of the laptop....quite easy....and fun
but yeah, either check the comapq repair manual, or jump in with a screw driver....:D

I have done alot of Google searching in the last few days and have not been able to locate a Compaq 2800t repair manual or anything else that gives me a clue. Any help in this area would also be appreciated.

normally the keyboard comes off easily enough...w/o any screws or anything..at least in the Dell's I've used...but you are going to have to take the screws out of the bottom to the get the rest off, would be my guess

be sure to label which screw came from where...makes putting together alot easier
