Averatec Laptops?

Postposted on Tue Oct 19, 2004 10:27 pm

Are they worth the money? I'm a highschool junior looking for a good solid and small laptop for notes for a couple classes, and some web programming aside from that and listening to music. Any other suggestions besides this laptop? I don't want to spend over 1000$ and I don't want it to weigh more then 5lbs, the lighter the better.

Thanks!

Also, do any reoccuring problems occur with these laptops?

PS: Battery Life is also a factor. How much battery life do these things get?

Love the Mac idea, but now for the original question..
AVERATEC AV3220H1 Notebook Athlon XP-M 2000+, 12.1", 256MB, 40GB, 56K, LAN, WLAN, WinXP Home
I actually got to play with this laptop, and i'd have to say its really nice with some weak hardware points aside...really nice touchpad, nice screen, built-in 802.11b/g WLAN, combo drive's are always a plus, very light. i didnt actually get to test the graphics like i would have wanted, but if the s3 chip is anything like the intel extreme, its so-so decent...all in all, if it wasnt for the vaio falling into my hands, this is the laptop i planed on getting...so you now have ur 2 choices...
EDIT:This laptop is said to get about 3 hours bat life..

Thanks a lot for your help guys! Any more views out there?

Also, I was thinking about exploring the mac option, because I love the smaller one and its only $1000 and it'll do what I need it to. But my question is, how difficult is it to program on? Can you program asp/asp.net on it? And how difficult is it to learn, and how well does it work with other windows computers on a network?

Thanks!

We sell the Averatek laptops where I work. We have received a lot of good feedback on them. They seem like a good laptop for the price.

On the Apple side - You can get programming software for almost any language and be able to program on a mac. When I took C++ we used CodeWarrior on a Mac - and that was in a classroom!
Apples are fairly easy to learn/get used to. Some things are a bit weird if you are used to Windows. The *nix core is nice, because you can go command-line . For example, I was having a problem getting CUPS (Printing SYstem) to work right with a 42in plotter on a Ti book. We popped into the console and were able to get it set up within 5 minutes.
They will work on mixed Mac/PC networks, even for filesharing, no problem.
