I am thinking about buying a mini iPod but everything I have read mentions USB 2.0. Is it possible to make it work with 1.1?

ya usb 2.0 is backwards compatable w/ 1.1 but it will be very very slow transfering files to it.

Everything that works with USB2.0 will work with USB1.1, it'll just work slower.

Thanks for the fast reply. I am also concerned about charging. I understand that it charges via usb2.0. Will it still charge with 1.1--just slower??

I believe the electrical signalling should be the same between 1.1 and 2.0. So recharging time should be the same. I would try to confirm that though.

It should. Best way to find out is to plug it in and see if it charges!

Thanks for your help guys. I am going to buy one tomorrow (either a silver or blue one) and see what happens. I already installed the iPod plugin for Winamp. I AM EXCITED!!

It works!!! I did buy a USB 2.0 card so it will transfer at a reasonable rate. When plugged into a 1.1 port, both iTunes and Winamp recognizes it but of course transfer is slow. This is useful though b/c I have a pocket USB 1.1 hub that I can use for a power supply when I'm away from my computer.

I love this iPod mini. I have stored so many songs on it and it is still only half full. It is slim and can fit anywhere!! The pocket USB hub I mentioned makes a great charger. Its sad to say that I paid the same price for a 256MB flash player (iRiver) and it is much more difficult to use.

I love the iPod, I am just a little leary about the sealed battery. Can that be replaced?

Good to hear you got the 2.0 card. It's much faster.

1.1 = 11mbps
2.0 = 480mbps
