Hi, I have 2 boys (12 + 15) hoping for laptops ar notebooks for christmas that would be capable of playing games such as World of Warcraft and the new relased Lord of the Rings The War in the North. The system requirements as listed on the website are:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4
AMD 64+2 4400
Memory: 2GB / 10Gb HDD Space

Video: 2006 or later GeForce 8600
Radeon HD 2600

I know nothing about laptops but haven't seen much with 2.4 or faster and most graphics are integrated.

Any help would be appreciated, I would like to stay as close to $300.00 - $350.00 as possible. Thanks

Laptops in that price range will be very iffy as gaming platforms and are not likely to offer high-end graphics. WoW gaming, acceptable; anything newer, not necessarily.

The graphics are integrated, but do feature tolerable gaming performance at modest settings. You can get some general idea of this platform's performance here:

Thanks Ludi, I will check into that one, the E-450 looks fairly decent.

Yeah, that price range makes it really tough (but with two teenagers eating everything in sight, totally understandable). You might get lucky shopping for previous-gen stuff at the "outlet" portion of the various mfr's sites (HP etc), or in the "re-certified" section at NewEgg.

very true. makes the budget kind of tight. I am always a little leary about "re-certified or re-furbished" electronics, have never purchased them before and the older gen may not be upto the newer games. I may be able to nudge the $400.00 mark if it gets a better unit, could also probably get away with a smaller monitor size like 13".

Actually, 14-15" is generally the pricing "sweet spot" on laptop screen sizes. The 13" and under are scarcer and tend to get allocated to pricier units.
