Looks like just a dock, and yea, that extra volume should be used for additional functions like a couple of small speakers or something else, otherwise it's just a waste of material.
Also, not sure about that demo video from the link - why would someone use it as a "stand" for typing text or video chat if the iPhone is already lightweight and small enough to be held in hands (or one hand, even when typing) while using such functions?

Also, isn't it a little bit late designing a dedicated iPhone 4-compatible dock? Next-gen iPhone will be released this year, and it most likely will have a different connector (maybe even at different location), or have some kind of inductive charging method making such vertically-oriented docks unnecessary...
