So I Nabbed a TF101...

Tue Jul 17, 2012 8:31 am

Any advice / tips / tricks from other owners? Must have apps? Brand new to the Android OS.

And I'm charging it -- does this thing have a pass-through charge from battery? I thought Geoff had said the newer ones at least didn't, anyone know offhand?

Cheers.

Yep, the original Transformer got ICS back in late February.

For must-have apps, I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. I use my tablet mostly for media and book consumption and the occasional Office file viewing (rarely editing), so the two must-have apps for me are Netflix and Kindle, and I got a free copy of QuickOffice Pro when Amazon had it as the free app of the day.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Since a tablet may not be as vital as a phone I suggest playing around with rooting and custom ROMs on a tablet.

This was my favorite ROM for my Nexus when I had it.

Hmmm. Does Google/Googleplay do free promotional apps or such? Asus?

I think* you can update the tf101 to Jellybean, or should be able to for all the 4x's I'd think.

Guys know rather you can pass-through charge?

And maps! Is the new version of Google maps/offline cacheing worth a hoot? Or is it well worth it to grab some other navigational software?

Amazon App store for previously mentioned free app of the day
Google Maps is definitely a great if not the best navigation program
Dolphin HD browser, but admittedly I have not used the ICS browser on a tablet
SwiftKey 3 Tablet Keyboard, I use the phone version for my...er, phone and it is fantastic
Beautiful Widgets or Fancy Widgets for skinable clocks and weather

This is just a start but good picks I think.

There are a ton of free apps in the Play store. Just look.

And Google Maps is by far the best navigation app there is, on any platform.

Google Maps is so-so on iOS, IMO. Apparently it's gotten better (?) on JellyBean but we don't have it yet on the TF101's.
