PC Application for Answering Phone Calls?

Thu May 15, 2014 12:08 pm

Hello to my fellow magestic gerbils,

I was just wondering, does an application exist to integrate an Android phone with your PC?

Think a use case similar to this:

You're playing a game, listening to music, or whatever on your PC. Your phone is plugged to your PC via USB. A phone call rings and you get a prompt or ring on your PC and can answer it with a button press onscreen or with a key combination on your keyboard.

Audio is routed to your headset / microphone just like Skype / Ventrilo / Teamspeak.

This would be awesome and I would probably miss less calls from my wife during pwnage sessions 8)

Back in the mid-90s Microsoft actually sold a landline phone that basically did this. I still have one somewhere in my junk closet.

Yup, the Microsoft wireless phone, they never did bring drivers out for it for anything other than Win 98 but still is supported in Linux.

You will also be able to all of this with OS X 10.10 and a iOS 8 device.

I should have specified, this is only useful to me on Windows.

Perhaps Apple's feature will inspire someone to do the same on Windows.

I don't think I ever even opened the box on that Microsoft phone. I wonder if I can get anything for it on Ebay.

At the very least Microsoft should be tying its own Windows Phone and (its own!) Skype together in this way.

Well, I just did a few minutes of googling, and it turns out there are quite a few apps with this ability.

Remote Phone Looks like exactly what I need, costs $6. Handles things over wi-fi / bluetooth, not USB.

3CX DroidDesktop includes this feature and many other potentially useful things. Free.

MyPhoneExplorer also a multi-purpose app. This one is free.

I must have been pretty lazy when I posted this initually. I'm surprised I didn't get pwned the following link: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=program+to+answer+ ... on+windows
