What sort of application is this for?

Is this for a home or small office network? or is this for something larger?

For home/small office stuff I like Netgear. Their quality seems good, and they actually build their stuff into metal cases. Linksys is another good one. For a small network, any of the major SOHO manufacturers are probably OK.

For a larger network, look into the HP procurve switches. Depending on what you get, they're expandable. They have been solid on the network here where I work (roughly 100 PC's). We also have a couple of 3com switches in service that have been very dependable too.

I have a netgear 8 port router, and it has run great in the 2 years I have had it. I also run a FTP server off it and it takes quite the pounding regularly with nary a problem.

Dlink, Ovislink (if you can find them), Linksys, Netgear. They all make good stuff.
