360 background downloads. possible on PC?

Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:13 am

Not sure if this should be networking or storage, please move if need be.

So, I've been wondering about this for a long time. Xbox 360 has the feature to turn on Background Downloads, so that if you are downloading something, but have finished playing or whatever you can shut down the system, but it will continue to download after being powered off (or is it a sort of sleep mode? either way). I was wondering if this is at all possible on a PC?

It's going to be a partial sleep mode. The discontinued Killer NIC M1 had something similar, but I'm not sure if there is anything currently made that does something similar.

Another alternative would be either a very low power download PC like the SheevaPlug or even some form of 3rd party firmware on a home router.

Also is cool that it automatically fully shuts down after its done downloading.

Theres been many a time when Ive wished for something similar to that on PC, but I have yet to find it.
