longshot, but looking for win95 ethernet driver

Tue May 04, 2010 3:37 pm

ive got a Compaq Deskpro thats about a million and a half years old. and I've been trying all day to find network drivers for it. Unfortuantly we need to have windows 95 installed on the machine, becasue that is the only OS that some plant software will run on. The only markings on the network card itself is "Pulse H1012" and I'm sure it's an intel card, but I can't for the life of my find the right driver.

PC sticker says
DPEND P600/10/64/NTC US

if anyone could point me in the right direction even, it would be greatly appreciated.

This might work:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchR ... amilyId=38

It might help if you go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ then select Network Connectivity->Desktop Adapters, and tick the "discontinued products" radio button.

edit: if that's a Pro/100+ NIC, then here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchR ... amilyId=38

You'll have to use the Win98 driver, which shouldn't be a problem.

The other option is to look for a different ISA/PCI card (new or used) that still has Win95 drivers for it.

The Pulse H1012 is just the 10/100 Base-T Transformer (magnetics module), it doesn't say anything about what the actual card is.

If you hunt around you should be able to find the markings on the main chip on the card. Alternatively, if this is a PCI card and not an ISA card, then boot a Linux live CD like Ubuntu, open a terminal window and do "lspci -nn". That should show what the chip is and give you something better to search with.

Realtek's RTL8139 chip is very popular on PCI cards and should be supported under Win 95. Although a Win 95 driver is not specifically available directly from Realtek I found one here.

There's drivers for a bunch of different cards there - Intel Gigabit, Intel 100M, 3Com 3C905, plus a bunch of no name rebranded ones. The OP needs to work out what the card is as I posted earlier and then we can probably find the driver off that page.

If you can't find drivers for the card you have, you might be able to find an old 3com or NE2000 based card. Those cards were in use back in that era, and drivers should be available for them somewhere.

Astra32 does a bang-up job of telling you what hardware's on your system. Latest version is supposed to be still compatible with Win95.
