Flashing English firmware to Japanese router?

Postposted on Fri Dec 03, 2010 1:35 am

Howdy and thanks in advance.

I have a 6 year old Linksys BEFSR41 V2 4 port wired japanese router. I have looked all over the net for an English version firmware update so that I can read the GUI. Does anyone know how I would go about this? I have tried to install the updated firmware from Linksys America with no luck.

Thanks again :)

It's a junk router in any language. Based on your post in the Internet speed thread, you would be better served by a more capable router.

Here's a link to the latest US firmware (from 2004):

http://homedownloads.cisco.com/download ... W_code.bin

Here's a link to the TFTP utility that will let you upload the firmware outside of the router's config pages.

That said, if you manage to brick it (pretty easy with that era of Linksys devices), a modern one is not much money.

My first router was a BEFSR41. Modern routers are much better.

Agreed. That said, the abusive tone above all but required me to find the appropriate links.

I will admit that I often fail to take into consideration the feelings of networking hardware that I make value judgments on. Devices that aren't worth the time or effort tend not to get my time or effort when alternative solutions make for a better recommendation.
