dead router?

all of a sudden all internet connection went down. i am able to go online through the modem but not when router is plugged in. i reset both the modem and router and still no connection. this router is about 2 years old and was pretty much on all the time. is this a sign of a dead router?

Do all of the indicators on the router itself indicate normal operation? Can you access the router's admin interface?

This is a fairly common scenario when people are using Torrents. Some torrents are shared across 1,000s of users and pretty much over-saturate your poor router. Most routers are not built to handle large "Maximum Simultaneous Connections", see this benchmark to see some examples.

If I'm off target here and you are not using Torrents and/or have no clue what they are, then my apologies, and it would be a good assumption your router sucks and replace it with a newer faster one asap!

yes. all lights are on, i was able to access the admin site after that i just gave up on it and retired it - it was an old linksys.
