What to do with an iMac

Wed Jan 29, 2003 3:16 am

Someone just gave me a Rev. C iMac blueberry. What the heck can I do with it? Right now it has 32M of memory. I'm willing to spend about $100 on it.

Now what? Will it run OS X? Or should I run Linux on it?

OS X is a hog and not as speedy as OS 9.

Agreed that it's a hog. But OS 9 is creaky and ancient and digging up enough useful software would cost money :). I would kinda like to see Unix/Linux on it, would be much more useful to me.

Beef it up to at least 256MB and it'll run OS X. It won't be terribly fast but it will run.

I'll give it a whirl Steel. But I think I'll try Yellow Dog Linux first. :) It's free :D. I'd hate to pay 130 bucks for a slow OS. Will let everyone know how it goes.

Your bargaining posture is highly dubious.

I'm getting the RAM either way. 32M isn't enough for anything nowadays

You could always do something 'entertaining' and post the results on this thread... :)
