Default DVD Player

Sat Mar 01, 2008 1:00 pm

Forgive the n00bish question, I'm still learning how to use these things... :)

How do I change my default DVD Player from Apple's DVD player to VLC or something else? Or at the very least stop OS X from opening the DVD player whenever I put a disc in? Reason I ask is that I have a lot of R1 DVDs and I live in a R2 area. Every time I put an R1 disk in, it asks me to change the region of the drive and when I press cancel, it spits the disk out which is a tad annoying to say the least. Plus Apple DVD's deinterlacing is appauling!

Any help appreciated,

Norphy

I'm not sure if this will help with your region problems, but, try this:

System Preferences... (top left, in apple menu) > CDs and DVD's.

Change "When you insert a video DVD" to VLC or whatever you want. If you still get the region prompt, try setting the dropdown to 'Ignore'.

There's a good chance though that the drive won't read discs from other regions, due to licencing(?) rather than capability. Though I'm unsure, I'm of the understanding that you can only change the region of your drive so many times.
