Having problem with USB keyboard

Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:27 am

Hello
recently I hooked up a keyboard to my mackbook pro to play games
it recognizes it as a generic

the problem is while playing games using FPS controls, like WoW (W,A,S,D)
pressing a second key, cancels the first one

say I'm holding down the walk button, if i tap the turn right button, the character stops walking

Is this a problem with my USB to PS/2 converter?
or problem with the MAC?

It may be specific to your particular keyboard. One of the things to look for in a gaming keyboard is "n-key rollover." The keyboard may be limited in how many simultaneous keypresses it can track. A keyboard with true n-key rollover (like my CVT Avant Prime) can keep track of every individual key, up to all 100+. Usually, a 4-key or higher rollover works well enough, but a 3-key rollover is not enough for some games.

It's almost certainly because you have a cheapy PS2 keyboard connected over USB, not because you're using a Mac (MAC is short for Mac Ain't Capitalized, btw). As JAE said, be specific about the model of keyboard - and while you're at it, be specific about the model of USB adapter.

well you can see if there's a problem with the Mac or with the converter two ways:

Use the converter to connect teh keyboard to your PC
Use the built-in keyboard on your Macbook Pro

I wouldn't be surprised if both of the above work fine; OS X doesn't have support for PS2 devices, so I wouldn't be surprised if a PS2->USB adapter didn't work so hotly either.
