Anyone with 1st Gen iPod Touch updated with 3.0?

Hey!

I own a first generation iPod Touch. Up until now, I've had no problems with it with firmware version 2.x, beside one free game crashing (a good game, but maybe not optimized for 1st gen). But with the new features of 3.0, I'm afraid to see it slow down because of the weaker processor, less memory, etc. So I was wondering if anyone with a 1st gen Touch made the jump to 3.0, and if you could share your experience, performance-wise.

Thanks.

Performance-wise, 3.0 is supposed to be an improvement across the board, not a loss. I don't have the hardware in question so I can't comment directly; just going off of what Scherer et al said when 3.0 beta was introduced.

For what it's worth I have a second gen Touch updated to 3.0 and it feels just as fast, if not a hair faster, than 2.x.

The wife and I both have 1st gen iPod touches and both are upgraded to 3.0. I haven't noticed any slowdown of any kind and it adds a few features. Its well worth the time it takes to upgrade. If you do a little looking around you can find a direct link to the file and download it right off apples servers. The file isnt protected so I feel like its fair game so that will save you ten bucks. Download the file and hold down shift and click on restore as I remember and it will give you the option to upgrade from a file instead of off the web.

Hance:

My girlfriends 1st gen with 2.0 updated to 3.0 for free. I think if you paid for the 2.0, you get 3.0 for nothing, it only costs to upgrade from 1.0 -> whatever.

Thanks for your answers and tips.

Corrado: I payed for the upgrade to 2.0, and now it still asks me for money to go to 3.0...

OK so I made the jump to 3.0, and I can confirm that there doesn't seem to be any slowdowns that I've noticed yet.

Thanks for the tip, you saved me $10 :D

It's a good idea to sync before you go to 3.0 as the update wipes out any downloaded apps, photos or pdcasts.

On a First Generation once you update to 2.1.1 or above... will that enable it to use an external microphone ?

They've tweaked 3.0 so that it feels faster, but it is slower than 2.2.X if you get out a stopwatch and check.

It's nothing huge, though, and it doesn't effect app performance.

It looks like the answer to this question is yes.
