ssd for new macbook

Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:02 pm

I just purchased my first Mac and this is a new adventure for me. My question I have is that I have a ocz ssd 60gb unused and was thinking about installing it in my macbook 13". Does Mac OS support trim command and if I was to do this would the easiest way to clone my hdd is use disk utility? I have the new snow leopard installed.

trim is a windows 7 feature
the easiest thing to do is back up your computer with Timemachine
then switch the hard drives, put in your reformat disc that came with your computer and click the option install from time machine
of course you need a 3rd hard drive to do this

how were you going to plug in the OCZ to your MAC to clone it? USB?
if the computer is new and u dont have any data worth saving, just use the reformat disc without backing up with timemachine
an SSD should have no problems though I am not 100% certain

oh, btw, if you have a itunes and a music collection how were you going to save them on your computer?
60GB is like half the OS and World of Warcraft then it is full.

I didn't think about trim being win7 before I asked. I read somewhere you can use the disk utility to backup the hdd and I planned to use a dock to finish the process. But after thinking more about it, I might pass on using the ssd because I want to run bootcamp and it just isn't enough space.
