Is anyone running dual hard drives in a unibody?

I am thinking about adding a SSD
but if I could have a larger storage that would be cool too
has anyone done this? removing the optical drive might be a bit inconvenient for watching DVDs but it would have no effect on work
what kind of speed would I be getting through the optical? if it is slow as USB then no point really
also, if i get an SSD, is installing straight from time machine fine or would that mess up the blocks?

Which unibody? AFAIK it will be the same as the speed if it was installed in the hdd slot, have a look at the system profile under Serial-ATA, the DVD is connected like the HDD to a 3 Gigabit link on my last gen macbook pro

it's a late 2008 unibody 15"
I heard the DVD drive had a proprietary connection and you needed to buy a special adapter?
if it's just a SATA2 port that would be good then
I heard some SSDs were not compatible with older macs? Ive been looking for some info but it doesnt seem like many mac users have made the switch to SSD yet
I opened it up and cleaning the fan and heatsinks were so much easier than looking at the steps online to reseat them, I don't think I will ever do that

Looks like it is a special connection, check the link. Dont know anything about older macs and ssds sorry, but lots of mac users are putting ssds in, try the macrumors.com forums for info
