Ipod Nano First Gen Recall

Just got an email with this link:

http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_r ... em--&sr=em

Good, the battery on my nano had gone to crap anyway and had it sitting in a dock for the last few years. I think this means I get an upgrade in model and size since the new ones are all bigger than 4gb. :)

Wonder how many people still have their original nano?

My wife still has an original nano in a drawer somewhere. The battery died and I stuck it there thinking I'd grab one and do it myself. Now I guess I don't have to. :p

edit: wonder what they're going to replace it with. Surely not a new nano. :o

My son has a 1st gen nano. They are sending a box for return. Yay! :D

It's probably cheaper to make a new iPod in China than it is to replace the battery in America. Especially since they've probably long since retooled their factories to make other iPods and no longer have the capacity to produce large numbers of 1st gen nanos.

They are really doing a product recall of a first gen nano? Guess the lawyers gave them no choice.

They mailed me the empty box priority overnight with pre-paid priority overnight return label!

Got my replacement about 2 weeks ago, a new 6th gen nano, by itself with no cables or anything else. Nice upgrade, double the capacity and a touchscreen! :)

Same thing my son got as a replacement. He got a watch band for it and it looks pretty damn sweet.

haha, I (well, my wife) got 4x the capacity, they sent me a similarly packaged 8GB to replace the 2GB.

Yeah I got a silver 8gb model in Oz. Same packaging as above. However a friend that exchanged the ipod instore got a retail model off the shelf, 8gb in the colour of her choice, with headphones, etc.

Do the cables that came with the 1st gen still work with the 6th?
I mailed my 1st gen back to them last week.

Did anyone have to return theirs? Apple has not sent me a box nor have they instructed me to send it back in the packaging for the replacement. It still works and keeps something of a charge, too. Obviously I'm not going to sell it or anything, it's just hanging out here.

How did you do that? I'm pretty sure the rest of us had to send it in advance in order to get a replacement.

No idea. When I said me, it's actually my wife did it all (since it was registered to her). She said she filled out a form, which was in the OP and mailed it in. I should note that I haven't actually *seen* the old iPod in a while; I'm just going off what she said that it was still working well and that she didn't send it back. She might have and forgotten or misunderstood what I asked, though (maybe she thought I asked if she still had the old one). :o

edit: she said it's the iPod she mailed off. That makes more sense.
