the other reason is kind of a fashionable retro step backwords & I think a desktop case would provide a nice height to stand a LCD monitor on to bring it up to eye level.
I don't see why ventilation should be a problem if you had say intake fans on the side and exhausts on the rear, but this would have to be designed for I guess.

It's designed to be an HTPC (Home Theater PC)
with a couple more well-placed fans it could cool a dual system easy.

A few comments: the powersupply is not quite ATX. it's the same size, but a little different with how stuff hooks up to it. Right now the powersupply is in my main box (sans some disks) while I RMA my main PSU, and, for example, the power doesn't come in from the back, and the fan isn't there either. Power comes in and out from the same side. You could probably rig a normal ATX supply inside the overture, but it'd be a bit less slick than the fit of the stock supply. It'll fit a standard ATX sized motherboard. Right now I have a dual PPro board sitting in it, I might swap in a dual PII-300 depending on how long I keep it as a "random" box.the only decent quality desktop case I know of is this Antec Overture
