antec earthwatt 500 wierdness

Thu Oct 09, 2008 4:09 pm

so i was looking for the second 6-pin PCI-e connector on my earthwatt yesterday and... it's not there.

in its place is an 8-pin connector, which is strange, because the earthwatt 500 suppose to come with 2x 6-pin, not 8-pin + 6-pin.

AFAIK, everything else looks reasonable. do these things come in different versions, or are all the documentation i've read online wrong?

Well, the US Antec site says you're supposed to have a 4-pin ATX+12V, an 8-pin ATX+12V, and 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

You should compare your connectors to this...
So you should have 16 total connectors right? How many do you have?

opened up my case and took a look. i couldn't find the second 6-pin PCI-e connector, although everything else seems to be there.

another thing: my PSU is marked as EA-500D, and has higher ampere ratings on the two +12V rails than a standard EA-500.

hard to say, since i didn't do a very good job with wire management and the inside of my PC looks like a rat's nest. but yes, i definitely only have 1 6-pin PCI-e connector.

The "D" designation means it was built by Delta instead of SeaSonic. Everything I can find on the "D" version says that it should have 2x PCI-E like the SeaSonic version. I'd take a few pictures and send them off to Antec's warranty people and ask "did I get hosed"?

well, depends on whether the trouble is worth it.

currently i'm using a HD4850, which only uses 1 PCI-e connector. i might upgrade to a new motherboard and get a second HD4850 in crossfire later, since my PSU does put out enough power for it.

i wonder, are there such things as 8 to 6 pin adapters, since i do have the 8-pin 12V connector available?

They have 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e right? Cant you use one of them? Well before you take pictures and do anything with warranty, id suggest you take it apart and REALLY CHECK if you actually only have one, unplug everything and pull everything infront of you and count them, and double check. You could have it hidden behind something and not evne see it =\
