How good is a thermaltake purepower 500W? Only $15?

TR did a review a while back of the thermaltake purepower RX600W: http://techreport.com/articles.x/15208/10 and the conclusion was that it was "good value but loud". I don't know how similar the two are, but it's only $15!!

It will have to power a 8800gt/p5q/4gb/e8400/ one or two hard drives and 2 dvd drives. Should I buy a corsair cmpsu450W for $60 or should I take this black Friday thermaltake deal at newegg?

The Thermaltake unit outputs 220W combined for the 3.3V and 5V rails. Assuming the rest of the 500W goes to the 12V rail, you get 280/12 ~= 23A. The Corsair unit can do 33A with its 12V rail. So the Corsair unit is indeed better.

That said, if you are not overclocking much I think 23A should be ok. If you can deal with the noise, $15 may be a good try.

another question: atm the corsair 650W and the corsair 750W both only cost $70 AR whereas the 520W is $100 AR and the 620W is $120 AR and the 550W is $78 AR

should I just get the 750W for $70 AR?

this is a different build btw, it has to power a gtx 260 core 216 and 3 hard drives and an overclocked q6600

All of those should be ok.

Keep in mind the 520W and 620W units feature modular cabling, hence the higher price.
