Desktop Battery backup

I'm curious if anyone uses a battery backup unit for their desktop and could help me decide what I need... any brand and/or size recommendations?

I think I need one of these because I'm going to be living in a country with frequent brownouts and blackouts. Any thoughts? I think it is 220/230V input (former soviet union), and I've got a 500W PSU on my desktop.

APC is a reliable and trustworthy brand. Do you have any examples of stores that you have access to that we could look at the websites to see a selection?

Thanks! I've seen the APC brand at our local Office Depot. I'm currently in the U.S., so I've got easy access to websites like Newegg and Amazon, as well as a local Bestbuy, Office Depot, OfficeMax, and Circuit City. Additionally, my brother lives near a Fry's and I'm going to visit him before we head overseas.

Maybe I should build my own so that if it breaks I can at least fix it

APC is reliable and should be relatively no-fuss. If you want a quick answer, just get one of those. Be warned that they are heavy though, and you might sacrifice some luggage due to that. I also don't know about battery transportation due to hazerdous content.

In terms of size, here is a chart that should give you some idea of usefullness. Do you have a powermeter handy to know your personal usage? I'm guessing probably ~150W maximum not including the monitor.
