Seasonic M12II vs S12II

Hi folks,

getting ready to put together a new build to replace my 4 year old system. I don't know a lot of detail when it comes to PSUs since my previous builds have been fairly simple. The system I'm putting together is based largely off the most recent Utility Box build here. My question is, what is the difference (aside from about $20-30) between the Seasonic M12II recommended in the Utility build and the cheaper S12II? It looks like it's primarily a second 12V line. Isn't that usually just for SLI/crossfire builds? Since the Utility box isn't really meant for that, I'm confused as to why I would want to spend the extra money on a feature I don't need. Am I missing something? Please help educate me!

Also, I'm hoping for a relatively quiet system - as quiet as I can get without resorting to a bunch of pricey specialized fanless components, etc. If anyone has used these PSUs, are they quiet?

Thanks.

Oh criminy, I didn't see before that the S12II wasn't modular. I thought from the pic on Newegg's site it was. I guess that would explain it, then.

If you're looking for a quiet PSU, the Seasonic X series often goes on sale at newegg. The fan doesn't come on until around 300W load, so it is basically silent most of the time.

Yeah, I love my X-Series. The X-560 is a really great choice for quiet and efficient without being overkill.

Another satisfied customer. I am pleased with my X-750, quiet and hauls my two GTX 460s effortlessly.
